I am a very successful high school track athlete and for the 4/5 years as a runner I was a mouth breather. I started nose breathing while running and what surprised me the most was that my jaw was forced forward. By the end of a 30 minute run I would have to begin mouth breathing because my jaw muscles were too tired from being in their proper place. Fortunately my jaw muscles have improved and now they no bother me after about 5 runs since nose breathing. My cardio has drastically improved and my mouth no longer gets dry. every time my mouth gets dry it results in a bad run but with nose breathing that is no longer a problem. What I have taken away from nose breathing is that my airways have expanded, I can run faster for longer and my mouth no longer dries up which acts a a placebo for a bad run. I also found that because I was breathing heavily through my nose, all the built up mucus is blown out. I know that a build up of mucus in the nose is a fast way to get sick so this is a nice way to mitigate a build up of mucus

I taught myself how to nose breathe when I was around 8-9 years old when I figured out that I could control or recover from an asthma attack by breathing through my nose rather than my mouth. The calming effect is interesting because I have always been the one my family came to in a crisis as I was the calm one. I never thought that nose breathing would count toward that. Just watching this video made me check to see that I was nasal breathing and I was, haha. It also must be why I hate it when I have a cold because its tough to breathe through the nose and have to mouth breathe which feels kind of weird.

Thanks for this information, Patrick. I had been living the first 24 years of my life with a nasal obstruction. (A deviated septum and enlarged turbinates). I had surgery to clear my nasal obstruction, and immediately after having healed up enough to breathe through my nose I noticed numerous quality of life improvements. No more daytime yawning, less brain fog. I noticed I still had a dry mouth though from overnight mouth breathing, and I tried taping my mouth shut while sleeping. It was such a drastic change: -Sleeping 7-8 hours now instead of 10+. I wake up feeling refreshed. -Constant fatigue gone. -My concentration is better, no ADD medication required. -Nasal breathing during exercise has massively improved my exercise induced asthma, I ran 5ks consecutively for the first time ever, with little challenge. Before I'd get an asthma attack in a matter of minutes from exercise. -Decades long depression gone, I think my poor sleep was impacting my mood far more than I could have ever guessed. Thank you so much!

What is fascinating to me is the link between nose breathing and the parasympathetic nervous system. The vagus nerve, the largest in the body, is connected to the parasympathetic nervous system. It relaxes everything in the body including the digestive system. How many issues are connected to the digestive system? Breathing only through the nose in even, calm breaths allows every system of the body to relax and repair.

But luckily, that was it... only had scars and laserations on numerous parts of my body. But what I realized was, I normally have a great of blood-flow, due to my diet, breathing, supplement in-take and I couldn't help but notice how fast my scars were healing, within 2 days after the accident. I guess it has something to do with blood flow, oxygen, nitric oxide, and of course breathing.

DO this as an exercise of your jaw and OMG the benefits are amazing! This can also and should be done to the sinuses that are beside each nostril. One might notice INSTANT relief from pressure there, like from a sinus attack due to allergies! Massage the face with hard presses to the point you can belay take it. Just take it slow and steady.

However just recently I have developed a sort wooping cough that keeps me awake at nights, especially if I get a chill or the like. It got so chronic that I just new I had to just close my mouth and breathe through my nose. It seems to have worked. Off on how long humanity has been around, for the Earth is only 6,000 years. That said, the other information on nose breathing is great & certainly makes sense to me personally. One ironic problem I have observed for a long time now with others who have given instructions for breathing exercises to calm the body's related systems down & lower heart rate & blood pressure to go into a more relaxed state of being is that they instruct to exhale through the mouth. This makes it so that the follower of these instructions does not get the full benefit, & maybe in some cases no benefit, from these exercises, for the mouth becomes dry &, of course, uncomfortable as a result. It is so often taking information from there, & some from here, & another piece or portions from over there, & so on to come up with a fuller picture on so many things. Thanks for what good information you provided here, Patrick McKeown (Oxygen Advantage). 👍🏼

If you want to refer to the Bible for the age of the Earth, then you could be incorrect. Cause I don’t think the Bible is a perfectly reliable source. It’s imperfect.
@fiery.mercaba
2 жыл бұрын
The irony of that you being named @@Adam-te9uu are questioning, nay, rather denying the Book of the Creator is not lost on me. But, yeah, I have not the time currently to lay out several facts before your eyes to indicate to you how wrong you are about the Bible, but if ever you knew just how incorrect you are, if you truly knew, you would be so incredibly shocked. This much else I will say to you. It is not without reason that atheistic evolutionists try so hard to discredit the Bible, & it is because their consciousness is well aware of the frauds they have constructed in the areas of geology, dendrochronology, paleontology, zoology, taxonomy, anthropology, astronomy, etc, to prop up a pretense of that their belief system is reality, all this while they know the Bible exists & unwaveringly declares concepts that are diametrically opposed to their own & that oftentimes highlights their folly as being folly. The Bible challenges their madness & folly, it is unapologetic, & its adherents who really believe it & have experiences in interacting with it are numerous & also unapologetic. To maintain their fantastic fantasies, the evolutionists has to try to accuse the Bible of being untrue, &, all the while they raise so much resistance against, they become more & more spiritually blind & unable to see what they ought to. As it is written, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Relatedly, as I remember this now, just recently I saw an episode of the trivia game show Jeopardy! in which they posited a clue that spoke of how that the Bible speaks about "corn" being in the Middle East when corn, as in maize, was supposedly not known to be in that geographical area back then, & I was like, "Are you serious? You all are that ignorant to say something like that?", & I just shook my head. You see "corn" in the Bible is not a reference to maize, but is an English word that simply meant "seed" or some type of "grain" back in the time of, say, the KJV Bible translators. So there it was they were trying to use the Bible to supplement their array of questions for their television program (which I am glad they do, for I love the Bible & it exposes more people to the Bible) while at the same time belittle it, & they ended up making themselves jokes, though they don't even realize they have. As it is written, "God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

7 ай бұрын
Hi @AlexNewman11, It's been long talked about in books like Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A Price (1939) and more recently in books like the Dental Diet (2018) by Dr. Steven Lin that our diet of high sugars and overly process ingredients has a detrimental effect on our facial structure and lends itself to things like receding jaws and the requirement of orthopedic intervention. This in turn lends itself to the development of mouth breathing. The more we mouth breathe the more we can make the problem worse and vice versa. If we learn to nose breathe as children when our facial structure is developing we can combat craniofacial development issues or prevent them entirely. Functional nose breathing helps to ease breathing problems associated with craniofacial development issues.

A few months ago he had a Laryngectomy, meaning he now breathes through a stoma in his neck instead of his nose and mouth. I'm wondering how it would be for those neck breathers to do these kinds of breathing exercises as they can no longer breathe through their nose. Do you have any idea how it would be or have you dealt with anyone before? Any information would be highly appreciated. I know this wouldn't be in high demand but I'm sure it would be highly appreciated by Laryngectomees if you could make a video on this.

If your anxiety is caused say by childhood trauma, can you change your poor breathing without processing your trauma? Can changing your breathing help process the trauma which is the cause of the anxiety and poor breathing? Point being if you have anxiety and bad breathing habits because of that trauma, is changing your breathing without processing the cause of the poor breathing going to change original response to the trauma? I"m rambling but hope I make sense!

If you sleep better and get more oxygen with every breath you can approach it with a clearer head

I understand your question but why think at all about the old trauma if you don't want to keep the results? Why not try the remedy first? What do you loose?

Hi Adam. Nose, slow and low. It would be best to enhance gas exchange from the lungs to the blood. Not to breathe hard and big as this will cause coronary vasoconstriction.

When I exercise, I find I’ll breath through my nose and out my mouth. Are there negative consequences to breathing out of your mouth if you’re breathing in through your nose?

Fundamentals are not taught to us at the very least at school level ,the message comes more likely at specialist levels like at this workshop ??

Hi @dna1238 We strongly believe breathing should be taught in schools. If kids learned how to down regulate or up regulate, they could learn to change states more easily and find ways to better cope with stress, anxiety, etc. Thanks for the comment.

My nose was broken so it's difficult to breathe through my nose all the time. I have been training myself again to breathe through my nose. Any tips?

Put tape over mouth while sleeping, if possible. 8 hours where you are training yourself without doing it actively. He has videos on mouth taping

Hi @TruthToPower72, Glad to see you're taking steps to improve your health. You will see real change with daily exercises and keeping the mouth closed at night. Make sure any change in medication/medical apparatus is done in conjunction with your physician. Regards, Ronan

Very important to do exercise breathing daily, to improve your heart, BRAIN, arteries and lungs. To relax and help you sleep at night. Under stand NITRIC OXIDE , DUMPING. MY friend it's not just the nose. It's the action.

As in hyperbaric therapy the pressure is increased so oxygen more easily enters the blood I accomplish this increase of pressure by exhaling carbon dioxide and then breathing in deeply and holding while at the same time putting the arms around the abdomen and compressing the air contained in the lungs getting some hyperbaric therapy; you immediately feel the onrush of oxygen doing this several times a day should help kill the Covid-19 virus. . . plus other benefits.

So what are you supposed to do at night? Tape your mouth shut so you can breathe thru your nose? What control do we have over our mouth being open or shut when we are deep into sleep?

Had nasal surgery from an ENT doctor nasal turbinates and septoplasty and sinus airways widened. I still have issues with having enough air or maybe I am not used to using my nose to breathe.

It strikes me more and more often that old ideas about the human body has been suppressed if they give people a chance of improving their own health without doctors/ dentists( orthodontist ) and medicine . This is the case with regard to breathing and also diet. This seems to me to be the major driver when it comes to the predominant diseases of present day. I am myself a dentist and for fun I told my petite to to eat once a week but that doctors and dieticians would disagree with me. Turns out to be true though . Shut your mouth , eat once a day and you’ll be fine . Ansel keys is antichrist in diet and I’m sure there are similar demagogues in breathing science
