Heh...that's actually my favorite part of the whole movie, the scene with Bill and Jo arguing in the truck with the radio on, so everybody can hear. That was HILARIOUS!!!! "....I'M VERY HAPPY WITH...WITH...WITH?...." " Melissa?" "......I KNOW HER NAME!!!!!....." - PERFECT Bill Paxton delivery. Sends me into hysteric fits of laughter every time.

The criticism this movie gets is totally undeserved. At the end of the day, it's extremely entertaining and never gets old, at least to me. Y'know I think Doug and a lot of other critics are WAY too harsh on this film. Yeah it's not that smart, and for a natural disaster movie the audience doesn't come away learning barely anything new about tornadoes (which is crazy considering it was written by Michael Crichton), but it's STILL one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures. The soundtrack is kick-ass, the atmosphere is gleefully self-indulgent, and as stupid as the whole "tornadoes have minds of their own" angle is, it's just gosh darn fun. And as a big part of my childhood being one of the first PG-13 movies I watched besides Jurassic Park, it will always have a special place in my heart :) Plus the ride is pretty cool too lol
@kevins.4185
10 жыл бұрын
word of advice, don't try defending a movie you called a guilty pleasure when your saying many critics hated it. a guilty pleasure movie tends to end up as one of the following 1) something so opposite to your personality (at least in public) you love an example of this is a big burly biker guy loving something super girly and like barbie 2) its something very embarassing that you like it and rather others didn't know you liked it 3) you kind of like it because of reasons which tend to hurt it
@IL1KE2COMM3NT
10 жыл бұрын
Kevin S. Okay, then my understanding of the phrase "guilty pleasure" was a bit off. I'm not embarrassed that I like this movie, in fact I've defended it before on an objective basis. I believe it's unironically a good film, even with its various flaws. Thanks for correcting me (y)

"How many tornadoes can there be in one day?!" Actually, recently in 2011 there was an outbreak of 340+ tornadoes across 21 states. I don't think that many were violent tornadoes (EF4-EF5). But back in the 1970's there was an outbreak of 140+ tornadoes across 13 states, including Canada and 30 of those were violent F4-F5 tornadoes. So yeah, it can go nuts from time to time. The amount of tornadoes that were shown in this movie was actually quite low. What was it, 3-4 maybe 5? Decent supercells will spit out that or even more.

1. Tornadoes can roar. 2. Green Skies usually indicate an extreme severe storm is forming and approaching, usually associated with tornadoes. This is also more originating from farmers that seems to hold up on its own. 3. When I was young and watched the movie, I was thinking the exact same thing in the opening in relation to the father. 4. Oh and during the waterspout scene. I do not know why many people do not see this, but there are Three tornadoes instead of two.

While this movie may be flawed in quite a few things, I think NC was being a little too harsh about the tornado plot. Tornado season in OK? Lots o' twisters. This is before the Enhanced Fujita scale, and yes, F5s are not only rare, but horrifyingly destructive (don't believe me? Wikipedia Greensburg, Kansas and get back to me later) Tornadoes are still incredibly unpredictable, despite all the things we know about them. This movie perfect? No. Decent? Sure. Also I think at the time this movie came out, hiding under an overpass when a tornado approaches was the accepted thinking (now we know holy crap that's a bad idea)
@FBHSswimmer2006
10 жыл бұрын
Or Google the May 1999 Oklahoma City tornado, EF5 Joplin, Mo tornado, and the Moore and El Reno OK tornado last year, both EF5s. You're right Wolfbyte, back then it was advised to hide under an overpass if you were near one. And NC was being too harsh on this movie. Because of this movie, I personally took (and still have) an interest in Meteorology with emphasis on tornadoes.

Chicago has never experienced a significant tornado. Only once in recorded history has a tornado touched down in the city proper and only 4 other times have tornadoes touched ground within the Chicago area in general. Never have they caused notable damage.

"How many tornadoes can there be in one day?!" Quite a few, even if you're talking about just one town. Grand Island, NE was hit by 7 tornadoes in one day in 1980, and a couple of small towns in northern Alabama were hit by two F5 tornadoes during the Super Outbreak of 1974. The movie theater tornado is ridiculous because NO ONE sees it coming until the very moment it hits. Real weather nerds would have had their asses in front of a TV/computer watching that sumbitch coming on radar an hour before it hit. The review was great, though. I highly enjoyed it :-)

Also, since the film takes place in Oklahoma, which is said to be in the "Tornado Valley", there can be quite a bit of tornadoes in one day. Honestly, I think the Critic is just hamming this review up, like a lot of his reviews. I actually quite enjoy Twister.
@JasminePaygeBrooke
10 жыл бұрын
***** No shame in that. And yeah, over in Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, all those states in the middle are in Tornado Alley. Probably caused because of warmer currents flowing in from the Gulf of Mexico colliding with the cold air currents flowing in from Canada. Right where they meet, BOOM. Tornado. You're in IL., so you should be safe from tornadoes (though I can expect you do get a good amount of snow every now and then). But tornadoes, they're unpredictable and could happen anywhere (that doesn't mean they're likely to happen), and in Tornado Alley, they could happen any time. It just depends on the air that's going around along with air pressure and other variables like that. And about the Critic . . . Well, he was hammering it, but there are always cases where he doesn't know about a subject as much as he thinks he does. I'm not saying anything bad about him, I'm just saying what I've concluded from the Compilation of his F-ups videos.

I have to admit in retrospect this movie is actually pretty bad. But it was one of the first "adult" movies my Dad and I watched together and of course, as a kid, I didn´t notice and/or care about all the plot holes, the sometimes terrible dialogue and the stupid as hell climax. I enjoyed it because it looked cool to me as kid and I was watching it with my Dad and had fun. So I simply cannot "hate" this movie, nostalgic bonus and all.

I remember it very fondly myself. Sure, the romance part is quite dumb but I love the team spirit between the twister lads, they're very cool kids, you can really feel the camaraderie. I love that scene where they all play their "we're hunting a tornado!" music together, actually, lol! It's chaotic and good natured, like their crew, I thought it was great. I also love every single dumb line they gave Dusty. The suck zone is legendary, man!

Actually Twister's tornado outbreak is completely possible and has happened in American history many times, including the 2011 Super Outbreak which saw hundreds of tornadoes touchdown in a 72 hour period. Hundreds of people died and billion of dollars of damage was done, the effects of that outbreak still felt and seen today. Joplin for example. The damage of the F5 that struck Joplin, Missouri was compared to a small nuclear bomb and ranks as the costliest tornado of all time in world history. The city is still being repaired today.

When The Nostalgia Critic said in the drive in theater scene how many tornadoes can you have in one day that simply don't happen. He's wrong that can and do happen practically every year you can have all 5 f scale tornadoes rating even I know that he must had forgotten it because you learn it in school and weather channel it's called a Tornado Outbreak that's why there's so many tornadoes it's an Tornado Outbreak.

Iron pipes and leather straps hold you down huh? Funny, I could have sworn that the centrifugal force of an F-5 tornado would violently spin them with such ruthless power that the straps would tighten and squeeze their guts out of all their orifices like toothpaste. But I guess the center of a tornado is just full of whimsy! Lalala!

In a lot of places in tornado alley, it's is extremely difficult if not impossible to build underground storm shelters or basements. Here in Arkansas the ground is extremely hard clay and someone would have to be rich to build a basement or storm shelter. I know my mom told me when she and my Dad built or house, it cost them a crazy amount of money to even have one room lowered a step. You only see basements and shelters farther up north for a reason. It's geology. Sucks.

I found it annoying that he kept harping on the fact that the tornadoes just suddenly disappear when that's actually how they behave. Tornadoes aren't like hurricanes or thunderstorms that stick around for a while and move great distances. They show up for a little bit, do a variable amount of damage, and then vanish.

Actually, this movie is pretty acurate. Tornadoes are measured with F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 , F5 being the worst, its diameter can be almost a mile long and tornadoes have several smaller tornadoes inside of them. However to your credit tornadoes go in a certain direction due to the wind in one going in one direction. Not to mention the fact that tornadoes last for about 45 minutes. And on that last part, it would have been smarter to to the side not in the path of the tornado. They also could have used chain instead of leather belts. However despite it's flaws this is a nostalgic movie for me because when I was little I liked tornadoes and I wanted to see one.
@goldendragon68
10 жыл бұрын
Um... regardless of what you strap yourself to an F5 would break whatever bones it could to get you out of that strap in literally one second. This movie may have the F1-5 scale down, but the rest of it is just bullshit devoid of science, where an F2 apparently can take out a house but leaves the main characters and nearby trees untouched. Plus the characters are boring and 2-dimensional, it's impossible to get remotely attached to any of them. Honestly I never really liked this movie beyond pure eye candy for its special effects. :/

Mayu Hinamori there are definitely things in this movie which were impossible in real life....BUT maybe the dad would have survived if he had been tied to a metal pipe with a belt. Cause at the end it does suck them upwards, but they stay tied to the pipe, and would have been blown away, like the dad, otherwise.

Actually Critic yes. They put a roaring sound inside of the tornado and it looks like roaring of a T-Rex. It was based on Steven Spielberg & Michael Crichton idea that what if tornado chase through with human characters and have a roaring sound that it refers to Michael Crichton science gone wild. He actually wrote the movie and produced the movie along with Spielberg. Imagine if a T-Rex was chasing Jo and Bill with their dumb argument and then T-Rex eat those idiot couples. That will work. Not to mention I remember watching this movie as kid, it has pretty special effects and it was a wild summer fun movie with chasing tornadoes and shit. However, as a adult and remember watching it, it's nothing spectacular and it's just a group of chasers are getting these tornadoes disappeared. That's it. Even though this movie is too obnoxious and very dark to see.
