It’s been more than 30 years since I saw this movie for the first time. And I have never seen again another film more powerful or beautiful than this.

@@sha11235 The french medias didn't talk a lot, because actor Michel Bouquet died around the same time. Same with actress Catherine Spaak, french online press wrote few lines, nothing on TV. So international press often doesn't report.

After having watched the theatrical version decades before, I finally watched the director"s cut using a projector that I borrowed from the school I was teaching at!!!! I watched it by myself! The image was around 150 inches wide and the experience was incredibly surreal!!!! By the end of the movie I was sobbing like a little kid!!! There are so many layers and factors that make it so memorable!!!! One of those is the Ennio Morricone musical score!!!! The movie does not have the same effect without this music!!! The music should have gotten an Oscar for sure!!!!!!!!!

This movie is a love letter to cinema. Ennio was a genius. Great end, when we were able to make great movies with no money (Mediterraneo by Salvatores too). Cinema at best levels.

My God, a fantastic, sensational, poignant film, full of love, laughter, regrets and nostalgia. The heart and soul are upset, attacked by very strong emotions. Fantastic music further increases feelings. NOT TO BE MISSED.

An epic farewell in this scene that is simultaneously cruel but loving as he loves Toto and wants to free him to live a full life while understanding that any sentimentality shown will do more harm than good. The words, the visuals, the emotion, and the music evoke such a sense of necessary sadness in order to help prepare Toto to embrace his future destiny.
