Nice to hear about what’s being built instead of just price predictions. Thank you.

Agreed! tbh I’ve stopped watching anything referring to price action. It takes away bitcoins potential to build a different economic system and equitable future

Thanks for bringing Nostr to us IM. I’ll be making the jump and zappin’ them sats for sure. I’ve been trying to get my head around BNS and wondering if you can do an episode to help us understand approaches to securing human readable addresses for use across the bitcoin ecosystem

@@IanMajor … well I thought I was. Not being a dev or having any real tech knowledge outside of personal computing I get the gist of the doc but can’t move forward from it. Does ENS operates in a similar way? I’m really after securing a .btc name for use on Lighting, NOSTRA, Mutiny etc. Not sure if that’s possible yet

@@IanMajor to build certain dapps on nostr protocol since essentially it’s free Would it be free? Or does it require initial investment on getting it to run

Nostr is free and open software - you can build whatever you want on top!

It does have a learning curve! I'm excited to see how different clients develop over time, what design trade-offs they make, etc.

Biggest difference between Damus and others like Primal?
@IanMajor
8 ай бұрын
I admittedly haven't looked closely at Primal. From what I've seen across Nostr clients in general, most differences seem to be fairly cosmetic / aesthetic in nature, but this is definitely an area for further exploration for me in 2024!

This app is way to overly complicated. Most people want something more user friendly and easy to use and not cumbersome. First thing i noticed is on the news feed i guess id call it is nearly every image is blurred out, you have to click on it in order to see it. Also in order to post a picture you have to minimize the app go into a web-browser and go to a different site upload the image there to get its url to then go back to nostr/damus and then post it via the url. Thats too involved to do what should be simpler. Second there’s no condensed simple way to add people you have a public key which is a loong jumble of numbers and letters. It should be simpler and more straightforward to find people. This is a niche app that wont come close to actually competing with big social media companies.

I suspect you're right. Definitely still early days for these client apps - even since I first made the video things have improved quite a bit on a number of the pain points you're mentioning but still a long way to go. And I imagine even if we do eventually get to "feature parity" with other mainstream apps it's still tough to get users from something like Twitter/X to come over because it's simply the case that not that many people actually care about censorship and decentralization, etc. But I'm still optimistic that Nostr as a protocol can be a very powerful enabler for a lot of people even if that ultimate population is a small fraction of the entire world.
