Watching Jerry Arizona's KZitem channel inspired me to try my first overnight backpacking trip just a couple of years ago. Since then, I've spent hundreds of nights on trails in Arizona, becoming interested in challenging long distance backpacking and recently finished a total of 50 days hiking the entire length of the state of Arizona on the Arizona Trail. I have yet to hike outside of Arizona. Until now.
I first conversed with Jerry, commenting on one of his videos where he designed and attempted to backpack a grueling loop through some of the most iconic parts of the Superstition Wilderness. While he wasn't able to complete the loop, I asked him some questions about the trail and his experience allowed me to learn from his mistakes! I decided to stash some water near Robber's Roost, scout out the areas of the trail that I was unfamiliar with, and hike the Superstition Icon Loop myself.
Recently, Jerry and I decided to try an overnight backpacking trip of the West Rim Trail in Zion National Park, a trail he has done multiple times. He has a really good video of he and his wife Tina showing the entire trail in all its beauty. • Best hike in Zion Nati...
Hoping to experience that trail myself, Jerry and I ignored the cold weather report and made the 6 hour drive to Zion.
Basically, everything that could go wrong logistically, did go wrong. I managed to cobble together some video clips of our attempt to show what we were able to accomplish. In the end, it ended up being one heck of an adventure, but not the adventure either of us had in mind.
Thanks Jerry, looking forward to planning the next one soon!
