At times like these that famous Eddy Merckx quote always springs to mind. "Ride as much or as little, or as long or as short as you feel ... but ride."

It's ok not to be ok ... recovery is hard espesiallyafter an op. The mind wants to go but the body is pulling you back. Hang on in there you will get be back to your normal self soon & you'll appreciate all the more. Whilst only a small ride you are riding :) Appreciate the honesty on your channel Chris & showing the highs as well as the lows.

Thank you for showing the bad. Not every day is great. And showing that is really important. Haven´t been on the bike for over 7 months after breaking my left hand and a botched operation. Dealing with recovery, the fact that the hand will never fully function again, the usual life stress, work etc. while not being able to do what makes me happy is a bit sh*t... So i feel you. Post-OP recovery is incredibly frustrating. But with a bit (or a lot) of patience and dedication things will get better. Planing my first ride next weekend after installing some new parts on the bike. Honestly can´t wait to struggle to ride up even the smallest hill. 😅 Keep on spinning and enjoy the time on the bike, no matter how short it seems! 🚴

Keep chin up Chris never nice when recovering or when just feeling crap but slowly slowly rather than pushing too soon and setting back recovery eh , its why i love your videos though cos you show the lows and that its ok to have them i go through ups and downs in my fitness and think is this just me !!! Because majority of social media only shows the mega highs , so thanks for staying real 👍

Yeah definitely vloggers needa keep it real. Take today, not my finest day either, some would say unavoidable. 200km distance planned today and again tomorrow, turns out my rear freewheel had other ideas. It broke mid ride, so suddenly, no means of pedalling - not a road side fix. But thanks to the actions of others I was at least able get home and, well plans will now change for tomorrow. That'll make it to the channel at some point, people love a bit of "Diaster" lol

Not always that great yes, I can understand the frustration, though little and often is better than not at all. Turkey does look like it has some nice riding, plus it's warmer and drier thsn UK.

ANY click or creak on my bike brings me right down….my fix for pressfit is Aluminium ‘screw together’ type. No help to you,but I like very much your total outright honesty. The ‘I am so cool..these are my also very cool mates, living the perfect life’ is nonsense. Like a photo enhanced model in a magazine ,actually partly responsible for young, easily influenced young people’s eating disorders and lack of self belief-mental health issues…just saying! But yeh,we have to just push on and be honest. Up and Down and Around as life interacts.Hopefully learning, growing, understanding. But as we know humans are VERY slow learners! All the best Chris.

Thanks for sharing also those kind of moments and going beyond the "nice and shiny" moments we see so often here - and there is nothing wrong if things won't go well. I can imagine how frustrating the "comeback" is, having had my own long way back over months (!) after illness. Just give your body and yourself the time required to be back at "normal" ... physically AND mentally! Once again, thanks for sharing!

I feel you Chris. I busted my ACL end of January, spent two months recovering by doing indoor riding and physiotherapy, had the surgery three weeks ago, and back to zwifting and physio...Havent had a good long outdoor ride in 4 months. Amazing how much fitness is lost in just two weeks of post-surgery recovery even if I havent been static but still trying to do any activity that is possible. Hope this phase passes quickly for you and you are back to ultras!
