There is a lot of confusion regarding tithing, and much of it comes from ignorance. This will shock you: *There is more danger of going to hell because you tithed, than if you didn’t tithe.* Let me show you why, in the scriptures: *God separated the Jewish people as His own, in the Old Testament.* -- Deuteronomy 14:2 (NIV): "For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be his treasured possession." *God gave the law of Moses to the Jewish people, not to Gentiles* Numbers 15:1-2: Then the Lord told Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel..." Then He followed this by the laws they should obey. *This law said that the tithes belonged to Levites. Levi was the third son of Israel.* Numbers 18:21-24: Behold, I have given the children of Levi *all the tithes* in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work which they perform, the work of the tabernacle of meeting. Hereafter the children of Israel shall not come near the tabernacle of meeting, lest they bear sin and die. But the Levites shall perform the work of the tabernacle of meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity; it shall be a statute forever, throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. For the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer up as a heave offering to the Lord, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore I have said to them, ‘Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.’” *The Bible says, “Levites received all the tithes.”* No one else was authorized to receive tithes under the law. This law was given to the Jews. When the Bible says, "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings" (Malachi 3:8-10), it is speaking to Jews who were under the law of Moses. Why? -- The law was given to the Jews as a part of the law of Moses. -- The Jews had a duty to obey this law -- If the Jews did not obey this law, it would be sin -- But the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Philistines, or any of the Gentile nations did NOT have a duty to tithe, because the law did not apply to them -- Because of this, the Jews sinned if they did not tithe. -- Because of this, the Gentiles did not sin if they did not tithe. *But there is more, and it's a big deal!* Not even Jesus could receive tithes while He was on earth, without breaking the law. Why? *He was not a Levite.* So, if Jesus - God walking the earth - could not lawfully receive tithes, by what scriptural authority does any pastor claim a right to receive tithe? None! Because only Levites have been scripturally authorized to receive tithes, you cannot scripturally tithe to anyone other than a Levite. Therefore, you are in more danger of going to hell *because* you tithe, than if you didn’t. Why? Tithing to anyone who is not a Levite is against God’s scriptural requirement. Additionally, we are now under grace. But even before grace existed, Gentiles were never scripturally required to tithe. *Here are four biblical truths, regarding tithing, that you must know* (1) There is no scripture that authorizes anyone but a Levite to receive tithes. (2) There is no scripture that authorizes a pastor to receive tithes. (3) There is no scripture that requires a Gentile to tithe. (4) There is no scripture that requires the church to tithe. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect *offerings* in support of the ministry. I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures. There is much more to this issue, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the scriptures that speak to these issues. If you're interested in learning more, check out "Tither, You Are Free!", available on Amazon. Blessings to you and your ministry!

The store house according to when tithe was instituted in the law was to feed the Priest and those assisting in the temple, the widows and orphans, the poor and needy, strangers who didn't have food too. Also there's a tithe that you use to buy whatever you like to eat as a family and come to the temple to feast on a given day. It wasn't meant for church administration or other temple running cost. Read Numbers and Deuteronomy not Malachi and get a full picture.

I'm sorry, but I have an issue with the part of this message that seems to play down the issue of tithing as a commandment from God. In Malachi 3, God commanded tithes to be paid. In Matthew 23:23, Jesus upheld the principle of tithing and said WE OUGHT TO DO IT. If God says something is a command and we refuse to obey it, that means living in disobedience to God, and Jesus himself already said that it's not all who call him "Lord! Lord!" that will enter the kingdom of heaven, but those who OBEY the will of his father in heaven. So while tithing is not what qualifies you for salvation, refusing to pay tithes constitutes disobedience to God which is just as much a sin as fornication/adultery. The same way Jesus said you should not look lustfully on a woman because that constitutes adultery, that is also the same way Jesus said we Ought to pay tithes in Matthew 23:23. It's an entirely different matter when you're talking about cajoling people to pay tithes to your church as a pastor. Jesus did not cajole anyone to pay tithes and we shouldn't do so. Let people pay tithe because they want to obey God, not because they are afraid of Pastor. It is better to fear God than to fear man.

@FM-bx7rn Jesus said "you ought to pay the tithes and still uphold the weightier matters of the law like faith mercy and justice, and you shouldn't do one and leave the other undone". @markb7067
10 ай бұрын
The tithe indictments in Malachi 3 were directed towards the Levitical Priests. See Malachi 1:6 and 2:1. And they had nothing to do with money. In Matthew 23:23 Jesus chastises the Pharisees while acknowledging they were carrying out the least of the legalistic tithe put forth by ceremonial and civil ordinances under Mosaic Law. Jesus pronounced morality as a higher purpose than that of legalism and the tithing ordinances became obsolete under the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:13). Today's version of tithing from earned wages to a religious institution has no biblical precedent so it can't be seen as an act of biblical obedience. Monetizing the tithe as a deliverable was man's idea after the Bible was written. There's nothing wrong with doing so. It is just not commanded biblically.
@nelsonoba950
10 ай бұрын
@markb7067 you have already told yourself you will not pay tithes, and now you are trying to convince yourself that you really don't have to. In Matthew 23:23, Jesus himself already endorsed tithing and said YOU OUGHT TO DO IT! If Jesus says you ought to do something, you have to be a son of disobedience to start telling yourself there are reasons why you shouldn't do it. After all, you can also tell yourself there are reasons you shouldn't love your neighbour as yourself when the same Jesus has already said you ought to love your neighbour

If you even read that scripture Christ quoted, I can tell you there are many tithers who will end up in hell because they are unjust, they cheat, lie, steal from government, steal in filling stations, steal offerings, steal from their employers, etc. I have met many of such Christians in Nigeria and I do not spare any bones rebuking them harshly!
