I loved her response to the "how do you feel about people not giving you credit". Her whole attitude is such an awesome one for our community in general. It's the opposite response as one of the other viral recipe creators who started putting their content behind a paywall because people shared out their recipes which really gave me a bad taste in my mouth about their recipes in general. Fan however is just all around a great person.

What's interesting is that for all of that her claims that she "owns" that recipe, another KZitem channel did it 8 months prior to her video, and you can find it in the Modernist Cuisine cookbook by Nathan Myrvold which was released over 10 years ago. If she wants to put her recipes behind a Patreon pay wall and make people sign a non-disclosure agreement, that's fully her right to do so. But don't make false claims about being the first person to ever combine a couple of ingredients.

I totally share the view with Fan about soy. Having been raised in Asia and then moved to the States 20+ years ago, I still do not fully understand why all this phobia about soy. In Asia (at least in Taiwan where I was raised) everyone eats soy products, from soymilk for breakfast, to tofu as one of the most common side dishes on lunch or dinner tables, and numerous other soy products. Especially for vegetarians, this is one of the main protein sources for them. Sure if it's GMO then probably not good, but I still buy non-GMO soymilk from Whole Foods and drink it pretty much on a daily basis. I don't think there is any negative health effect on me as I have always been very lean and healthy pretty much my whole life (am in my 50s). I don't eat much processed foods or use any seed oil in my cooking though I should say that...

The Heavenly Fan KZitem channel (and her 1 Carb Flatbread recipe in particular ) was what led me to investigate what she called “fat adaptation”. I was just looking for a gluten free bread recipe for a friend who I had invited to dinner! When I searched this strange phrase, that then led me to Jason Fung and the rest is history. Al throughout the next year of Keto and losing 100 pounds, I watched Fan’s videos, and have always found her style to be smart, clear, concise and easy to understand. Of course over the past year I’ve also discovered Steve, Nilli, Ken Berry and most recently Kelly Hogan and Bella the Steak and Butter Gal (I’m doing her 90 day Carnivore Challenge). Thanks for this, another great interview Steve!

I’ve been on keto for two years. It wasn’t until watching this interview that I realized my feeling of calmness is due to being on keto! I thought it was because I’m getting older and learned to be more calm. I know that keto has given me more mental clarity, I assume it’s from eating more fats to help the brain, which is made up of a high percentage of fat, to function better. Great interview. I was already a fan of Heavenly Fan.

The wonderful thing about Fan is that she is so generous and creative and joyful. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I am nevertheless a keen follower of her channel for the reasons I mentioned. I'm interested in a keto diet and improving my health and Fan's recipes are both healthy and delicious, so I'm happy to try them either as they are or adapt them slightly to include non-vegan ingredients but remain keto. I honestly can't imagine anyone having a single negative thing to say about Fan and her channel. She's just so utterly delightful and a truly charming and genuine human being! I'd also say in relation to 'fake foods' being created in order to experience certain foods (or food textures) which we choose to no longer consume in our diets, my view is that it's not much different to any other gastronomical creations from the past that have since become regular or accepted parts of our modern diets. And I agree with Fan about the Shepherd's Pie...that is an outstanding dish! The cauliflower mash was a revelation to me and it's even better than mashed potato!!

GMO is one of the concerns. The other thing many anti-soy people like to bring up is that it can be pre-estrogenic. Naturally, like most "ingredient police", they take the argument to the extreme as if a tablespoon of soy sauce in a marinade will turn a man into a woman. 😉

I am vegetarian, but eat a lot of vegan food anyway, but I love the way that she concentrates on eating low carb foods, and not worrying about the actual net carb count. Loved this interview. Have made Fan’s Heavenly fries a few times and also like a few of her other recipes she’s put out on the tube. The way she answered her favorite benefit of doing Keto was outstanding. She’s right… the standard diet wrecks havoc on you body and Keto more or less takes a large part of that away. That more than anything is my reason to sustain it, which was another brilliant thing she said. You have to get creative and keep on doing it knowing you might slip up here and there. She hit the nail on the head! Thanks for doing these Interviews, Steve. I really enjoy them!
