I have subscribed to HelloFresh and other on and off over the past few years so we have pretty good collection of recipes from them! Recently, we started picking out two recipes from the cards per week and making a double portion so we only have to cook 2 nights a week in order to have 4 nights of home cooked meals, just have to heat up left overs. We've noticed that its really reduced our take out spending, which is great for both our wallets and health, but means we aren't cooking every night either which is a definite plus for us.

For the cost portion of your video if you look at cost per serving individually it doesn’t seem too bad. But if you want to reasonably determine if hello fresh is sustainable for budgets look at total cost/recipe. If you get 3 meals/week and the total cost of those 3 meals (all other fees included) is $69.93, you pay $23.31 per recipe. You save money by going to the store and getting the ingredients yourself. Plus the cost from the store has the potential to yield more meals at that cost than hello fresh does. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your review but the cost breakdown is a tad misleading. With discounts it’s more sustainable but the discounted price only gets you so far before you pay full price again (since it is a subscription). Just keep that in mind to anyone reading this!

Sure, but people make choices also base on time as well. Calculate the gasoline and time (especially for those who work full time and juggle busy schedules), $23.31 per meal --entree and two sides for two people is cheaper than going out for dinner. I'm someone who has cooked for over 35 years for a family of four and now are empty nesters and I know all about budgeting. What meal plans do is take out the guesswork. It is possible to buy a small chicken and sides for less than $23.31, but like a lot of families, there can be a lot of waste. Vegetables that don't get cooked on time, leftovers that no one wants. I've found with the meal plans that there isn't any waste, the meals are balanced (we all lost weight), and we spend less money overall on groceries because we're only buying what we really need (less impulse buying).
@ashleyattheroundtable8952

@@ezwriter101 See the reason why that is good for u is because u have money coming in on the regular and is about to buy these expensive meal plans unlike most people in this world who are on a fixed budget and can't afford to buy these plans. (I'm just saying please don't come at me with that bs.)

Everyone can make these meals cheaper and people say it cost to much. But, Hello Fresh also needs to make money for their service. There are days we can't just figure out what we want to make for dinner and this service will take care of that for you. I dont think the price is too bad for what you get. Most of our Hello Fresh meals are vegetarian and we can add whatever protein we have on hand.

I’ve been using HF since January. I’m a one person household so I cook one night anve have leftovers the next. I started with them to get out of a real food rut and because I have been dieting and I don’t have to weigh and calculate nutritional info for dinners…it makes a huge difference for that. Some things I would offer for new people evaluating HF: the meals with rice always seem to be higher calorie for the food you get. I often add a basic green salad of my own because otherwise, you might end up hungry. HF DOES make mistakes sometimes….a wrong protein or meal kit (& once, a missing meal kit). The way to deal with those situations is to always contact them for a no fuss credit. You can then change (move up) the delivery for the next box and add a meal. My biggest suggestion to save money: go to an every other week approach. To me, the biggest “cost” is the $10 shipping each week. I am on the three meal per week plan, but going every other week saves about $20/month and I just order 4 or 5 meals at a time (save the meals with root veggies for near the end of the two weeks). I did go weekly for two months, but now I know which meals I most like and I have recipe cards and can do some on my own.
@RyGuy_1776
2 жыл бұрын
When you went weekly for 2 months, did you find it was worth the money? For example did you still save money vs eating out or buying your own random groceries? I'm thinking about trying them and doing it weekly because I work 9 hours so I only eat lunch and dinner, so I figured it might be beneficial in that way but I wasn't sure about EVERY single week, cost wise
@tdelphia1
2 жыл бұрын
@@RyGuy_1776 I think it is worth it. Inflation has made it a better bargain IMO. That said, I try to order every other week now because inflation is impacting my overall budget and it’s hard for me to rationalize $10 in shipping costs weekly. I still have a 3 meal subscription, but I order about 5 meals at a time. HF is flexible in letting you switch up delivery dates or skipping weeks which helps. And, I try to choose a couple meals with less perishable ingredients that I can use in the second week. This way, I’m still enjoying the convenience and variety, but saving about $20/month in shipping. Also, because I like to try new recipes, if I was buying all those condiments and new ingredients, it would cost a ton. Heck, these days, to get a non-McDonalds fast food meal can cost $12-15! I do save recipe cards and have a few things I’ve acquired the basic ingredients for. You can google up the spice blend recipes online if you decide to go DIY on some recipes (I do love the convenience though!).

I'm gonna change my plan to the 4 meal plan for 2 servings, so that should give me 2 meals a day for 4 days straight which gives me a couple days to fend for myself lol at least I'm thinking that's how it'll be for now. I'm really excited to give it a try though and we'll see how the cost turns out once this offer/discounts run out. One thing I was curious about though and im not sure if you're aware, but can you ever use another discount code in the middle of your plan? It’s significantly cut down our eating out. We usually get takeout once a week now on our busy day where the kids activities have us getting home after 6pm. And like you said we do really simple, quick meals the nights we don’t have hello fresh. It’s expensive but being able to give my family so much more variety than we’re used to is definitely worth it.

You spend almost the same at the grocery store buying all the ingredients but remember that buying at the store, food bought can be used for more than one dish. Condiments don't go to waste if you don't use them in one night. You use them on other dishes. And if its other ingredients usually buying at the store, you get more for the price. For example a pack of tortillas probably brings more tortillas than the hello fresh so you can always use the extra tortillas for another meal another day. If you buy rice, you'll be buying them in bulks and not in small portion sizes. That is where I think Hello Fresh is not cost effective unless you do takeout alot

I recently got a gift card for 18 free meals and am trying to decide whether or not it's worth it. I don't have a drivers license, so we can only shop after my husband gets home from work on pay days. With inflation, it's really hard for me to stick to a budget. I tried meal planning, but again, with how fast inflation seems to happen lately, it just doesn't seem worth it anymore. So it looks like this could help, even for a limited time.

I personally use these services every now and then, but I don't agree with the cost comparison. If one of the reasons a person sticks with hello fresh is because the food is so delicious, then it would be no brainer to buy the full size food items from the grocery store to make more than just 2 portions. The price point might be the same, but buying the ingredients from the store will yield more portions, so the cost per portion will go down. Again, saying this based on the assumption that the recipes are so good and it is one of the reasons you stick with the service.

I got 1 chicken breast, 1 8oz cut of pork chop, a pack of ground beef, and a few miscellaneous items like rice and a couple of lime. I don't know how this amount is enough to make 3 meals for 2 people. At 60 dollars plus shipping, this is outrageous. Just grab the recipes from their website and buy your own ingredients from the grocery store. Do NOT take this deal. It is not worth it. 70 dollars can buy you so much more than this. Ultimately, I stopped because I found that their “kid friendly” menu items really weren’t very kid friendly. I don’t know about you, but my kids don’t like scallops lol I felt like the meals were kind of complicated, even when I tried to do the “easy” meals (and I love cooking). I burned a few of the meals and I’ve never done that before! And the last reason was because my husband and I both work out of the home and we like to have leftovers for lunches and with the meals, you just don’t have that. So, overall I think it’s a great service if it works for your family and your situation.

Their prices are outrageous. I can easily cut the price per serving in half by just spending money wisely at the grocery store. For $20 I can create a casserole that will easily feed both of us for dinner, plus both of us for lunch the next day. The crock pot? Very easy to create several meals for $20 or less. I do get yout point about excess products lying around in the cuoboard etc but referring to that as 'food waste' is a bit weird. You only waste the stuff if you ignore it until it goes off. Something like half an onion like you said could be used the next day or chopped and put in the freezer for example. If its a really rare ingredient then worst case scenario you could just make the same recipe again dow the line, topping up the other ingredients. I also think the price comparison doesn't quite work unless you find out exactly how much that portion of each ingredient costs. E.g if a bag of pasta costs £1.20 then one portion is likely 30p or something. What you have worked out in this video as being 'right even' just isn't true lol. As someone else said you'd get way more portions out buying the full size products at the store. Essentially what you're paying for is luxury and convenience which don't get me wrong I TOTALLY get. I like the hello fresh recipes I've used in the past also. It's just that it cannot be claimed that there is barely a markup on this food. If it were worked out fully I think you would be paying not just a little bit but a lot more for the food itself

So i get the price comparisons that you're doing , but to me it still seems like yu make out better at the market because yu actually get more of the ingredient which means yu can actually make it more than once whereas with Hello Fresh yu can only make it that one time. Im currently waiting on my first order with them though, just wanted the experience of making new meals. Great review btw.

Thumbs down on the RRR principle: Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Hello Fresh (and the like) use way more packaging than regular grocery. Sure, you can reuse some of it and recycle the rest. But, I'm sure you already have plenty of empty amazon box to play with.

How do you have a $120 dollars off link if its not sponsored? Im looking for reviews from people that dont have an agenda to get people to join hellofresh. How can i trust this review?

It’s a referral link that literally everyone who does Hello Fresh has. You can ask my mom who now subscribes and calls me every night to tell me how good her meal was. 😂

All I can think about is the non ecological waste. Just that makes it not worth it. Box, bag, dividers, recepy paper, little containers por just portion of sauce; etc. I know in USA plastic waste is ENORMOUS, and maybe hello fresh’s waste it’s not much bigger than a regular grocery shopping. But at least in a grocery you get one plastic bag for several meals portion of something…

Put all my info in because i wanted to check out their site. Next thing i am being charged for my frist box without me even clicking order or anything. I canceled my membership and the box is STILL coming in monday. These little things they get you. So for anyone wanting to check out the site note THEY WILL CHARGE YOU ONCE YOU INPUT YOUR INFO WITHOUT NOTICE even when you cancel they will charge you for your last box. Cheeky site.

We fell into the same trap that most of the new hello fresh purchasers make……..not knowing how their site and program work, we thought our cost was 89.98 + 9.90 shipping, when we looked at our bank account they had deducted $167.00 and then another 66.00……needless to say we cancelled, feeling very cheated, or at the least misled……...I wish we would have watched your video first! You did a fantastic job we will most likely use your link in a week or two when the account refills a little. Thanks!

so to sum up, you don't know that cookbooks exist, because personally I don't see the difference between buying a cookbook and the ingredients you need, and ordering on hellofresh, except that one costs 4 x more than the other.

@@patricec.2957 well yeah it's a convenience service. You pay the extra for the convenience of not having to use gas or go out of your way for those nights you use it

@@patricec.2957 This is very clearly a service that provides extreme convenience for their target consumers. I don't understand why ppl are angry about that. Like OBVIOUSLY a service that delivers a weekly box of customized groceries to your front door with a deck full of handpicked recipe cards is going to cost you more than throwing on jeans and going to Walmart yourself... Lyfts cost more than public transportation. Hair salons cost more than washing and trimming at home. Paying more for convenience isn't a new concept.

First, if you like spending these amounts on food it's definitely more healthy than fast food and therefore perfect for some! Second, I would never pay $9.99 per serving for simple meals I have to cook up myself. And third, why would it be food waste? I can just use it to make more servings or another dish. I never make just two servings, why cook every day if you don't have to?! After watching this video I know Hello fresh isn't for me.

Totally sponsored. You didn't even include shipping in your tally. If I pick up a pizza, it's 7.99 plus tax, totalling about 11 dollars. But with delivery it jumps to 22 dollars. Not to mention tip for the driver.

I enjoy your videos! However, are you aware that reviews of your sponsor HelloFresh has terrible non-sponsored reviews, and have been known to alter and skimp on ingredients and serve expired food in order to save money? Please take a gander at their reviews and ethically consider the real reviews that don't pay influencers money to promote an inferior product. Thanks!
