Lots of people, especially high school students, assume that talking about mental health will feel, well, kind of weird. But, in most cases, friends are happy to listen and offer support. That’s the message behind our new PSA campaign.
The campaign is called Not That Weird, and it features unusual visual metaphors for mental health concerns. In one TV spot, a young man’s anxiety is represented as a miniature shark gnawing on his arm. In another, a student’s depression makes him feel as though he is locked in a deep-sea diving suit. But, in both scenarios, the weirdness is no match for the support of a friend who is willing to listen.
In addition to these videos, the campaign also includes print, radio, and online media, and launched May 1, 2018 to coincide with the start of Mental Health Awareness Month.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of the participants who gave so generously of their time. In particular, we want to highlight our BC2M HS Club Members from Aptos and Scotts Valley who dedicated a Saturday to be a part of the campaign and our BC2M HS Club Advisor at Soquel for providing our film location and endless support!
We also offer a huge thank you to RTO+P for creating and overseeing BC2M's sixth PSA; Endeavor Films for directing, filming, and producing 'Not That Weird'; and Media Storm for distributing the campaign to media outlets. None of this would be possible without their hard work and expertise.
