We live in North Pole Alaska! I have been here 23 yrs! We make videos about living here, love your videos. There isn’t a lot of people that live here, you were definitely here in tourist season. we go to Valdez every year and it’s our favorite place. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ if you lived here, there is a lot of free places to camp. I have only seen 1 bear living here and it was in Valdez. Moose are very common in our yard. Living here is totally different from visiting. It’s hard to live here , but it makes you strong! but it’s worth it🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼North Pole & Fairbanks are interior & we typically don’t get much rain & we have the hottest summers. Alaska has no mercy, it will chew you up & spit you out, only the strong survive 😂

I have lived in Alaska for 50 years now and would never want to live anywhere else. Moved here in 1974 from Washington state. There are so many places to camp for free and so much better than some RV camp ground. Just have a good generator and you’ll be fine. The winters are long but you get used to it. Valdez is the place I moved to from Washington state and now live in south central. Alaska is definitely not for the weak, you get strong or tuck tail and run. We like it that way!!

Love your videos. I lived in Alaska (Eagle River) and worked the summers in Prudhoe Bay for a couple years when I was just out of high school. Back then people drove to Alaska out of necessity (moving in or out of the state) not for fun. I always say Alaska is a wonderful place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there (again). It just isn’t for everyone. And that’s ok. That’s what makes it a special place and the amazing people that choose to make it their home. Flying in and then renting an RV or van is the way to go. Just makes more sense from a time and cost perspective. Just want to say I appreciate how authentic y’all are. You don’t have to love everything and every place you visit. You’re letting people know what they can expect at least from your experiences not just painting a pretty picture to gain followers. Have fun and stay safe!

We felt the exact same way about our trip. We went from the end of May til the first of July and so a handful of moose in Alaska but lots of black bears and a few grizzly, caribou and fox, even a mink in Canada. Most were in the Alcan but the fox, mink and a few bears were on the Cassiar. We had built it up for so long and watched son many other channels going but were kind of disappointed.

We spent most of August in Alaska. We cruised from Vancouver and stopped along several stops for 7 nights. We then did the "land portion" of the cruise package for 4 days through Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Once the "cruise" was over we rented an RV in Anchorage for 7 days. We rented a 30-foot camper cheaper than we could have rented a car! We spent time in Palmer so we could go to the Alaska State fair, we then traveled to Valdez for 3 nights. We absolutely loved Valdez! The salmon were running while we were there. We saw bears everyday along the side of the road while we were there. We went to Independence Mine and Hatcher Pass as well. The cruise was nice as we were catered to the entre time; but I felt like I didn't really see Alaska until we got on the road in the RV. I have a KZitem channel with video from our trip, but I am more of a photographer than videographer. Enjoyed your journey also. Keep up the good work!

Great review! I think you guys hit the nail on the head. Fly here & rent an RV for places you want to have an RV, and just use a rental car & hotels or BnB's, and do day trips/excursions. If you're a Van living type person, that's the way to go. You can reach so many more places in a smaller vehicle. I agree with most of what you said, if I were driving up here and being in a big rig. The only thing I disagree with is the Anchorage stuff. I'm biased toward Anchorage, because I grew up there when it was a great place to live, and now it's a hell hole imo. You are right though, you have to drive through it a lot so may as well gas & dump and grocery shop. And then flee lol. No staying in creepy Cabella's/Walmart parking lots 😂. If you ever decide you want to come back, just fly and rent a vehicle. I suggest May 15 - July 1 for the best sunny days & July - September for the least snow in the mountains. September is the best month for hiking. It's usually sunny (not the last couple years), and 50 degrees. Perfect hiking temperatures & sunny scenery. Tourist season is May 15 - September 15. The out of the way places start closing between Sept 15 - 30. Valdez is my favorite place to go, but we always boondock in the pass and drive to town on day trips. I'm with you guys, Valdez is an unforgettable vacation. Love it there! Now that I've written a book... thanks for the rundown. I hope lots of people see this video, because you kept it real. A LOT can happen driving/towing an RV around Alaska. It can be rough, but it's a once in a lifetime trip! You either love it so much you move up here, or you have memories for life. Those that come back, usually come by air. You guys fully get that logic. Totally enjoyed the Alaska videos and the review. Can't wait to see what's next, hope your sister is doing well ❤

We spent June and July in Alaska and had great weather! We were in Valdez when we ran into you guys and loved it there also! Agree about the roads and mosquitoes. We must of been lucky with the wildlife! Tons of bears, moose, bison, elk on the Alaskan Highway. Reindeer herd on the way back from Chicken. Moose on the Dalton Highway, Lynx on the McCarthy highway! Gas wasn’t as expensive as I thought it would be if you were near towns. We also did a Halibut charter and an all day sea life boat cruise. We only had only one thing break on our 5th wheel. We loved it so much we’re planning to go back in ‘’26 also from from Florida.

To have the best Alaska trip, go with no itinerary and zero need for internet. Keep your dates open-ended. We made all kinds of reservations. Early in our trip we realized weather was not cooperating with our itinerary. We wound up cancelling all but three nights of campground reservations. We then followed the weather. Did we backtrack? Absolutely. Was it worth the extra gasoline? Absolutely! We just didn't want to spend our once-in-a-lifetime trip stepping in puddles or cooped up in our RV. We did the trip in a campervan. It was, in our opinion, the best vehicle for such a trip. Do we plan to go back? Lord willing, yes!!

Personally, I wouldn’t totally cross it off the list, like we said in the video, we would definitely want to do it at least once, but maybe just consider doing it a different way (like flying in, or maybe renting a smaller RV, or timing the weather better or something like that). I will say, our goal with our channel is to document our experiences and I think we did a pretty good job of documenting OUR experience. It was very representative of our journey. From the awesome time we had ice climbing or fishing or hiking to our disappointment when our boondocking spots didn’t work out like we expected. We definitely had good times, which I believe we showed throughout our series. However, if you’re looking for expert Alaska travel tips and how to do it “right”, we aren’t going to be the right people for that. We’ve only been one time and this was our first experience, so people who have spent more time there will be better at giving travel guide type content (that’s just not the purpose of our channel).

Moose is the same plural as singular. AK is funny like that. I've lived here all my life and know it's not a guarantee to see wildlife when/wherever you go. Also, this past summer should have been different weather. Our weather patterns have not been following the usual rotation. Had it been it's normal you would have had way more sunny summer excursions. Trust me I was disappointed as well. I had hiking plans that I couldn't accomplish. The solar panel flying off your trailer would happen anywhere, that sounds like human error (installation error) and the axle breakage could have happened anywhere. Don’t blame alaska for that!! 2) If you don't like crowds, just come in the winter. 3) Saying you expect it to be rainy every day is like saying you expect that in the USA; a big state has thousands of weather systems. 4) Mosquitos don't come out in sunshine, breeze or dry areas. 5) You're right about boondocking; the state is not highly developed. 6) Of course its expensive, big geography with few people requires everything to be freighted in at low volumes. Its arithmetic. 7) As to wildlife, Alaska is not Africa. 8) Campground are hard to be feasible in high cost areas with short seasons. 10) As to geography, Alaska is so large it qualifies as another continent on its own. It has more coastline than the rest of USA combined. The size is generally misunderstood. For example, your track only covered about a quarter of the state.

Lol, I think we’ll take the crowds over those negative temps! 😆 but yeah, great explanations of why what we expected turned out to be different! like we mentioned, there were reasons to justify why it was different, but I know we’re not the only people to come to Alaska with some incorrect assumptions, just trying to help out some fellow folks thinking of traveling there! 😄
