Great idea that I tried already... and realized something 99.999% of the time when I am going to be NEEDING my firearm that I use a sling for... I wont have time to put a vest on... So I staged my shotgun with the sling ready to throw on soon as I grab it... Great video and Glad to see civilians training!

I don't normally comment on videos but this is almost exactly how I carried when deployed overseas. I had a regular 2 point, Army issue, sling and I used a climbing grade carabineer clip to attach the rifle to my vest. I could detach the rifle fairly easily as the job required.

Thanks for commenting Jim. I had a subscriber send me a tether he made and I used it yesterday for the first time. It's pretty awesome. I'll be doing a video on it in the next week or two. I think you'd like it.

Single point "tether" is the best way for me. Knowing from military service. I had one that attached through the Mille on the back of my vest. It's to bad I misplaced it during my transition from Iraq to the states.

Thanks for the comment!! I don't often wear a tactical vest so I do wear a single point but for whatever reason it kills my trapezius. I had an injury there many years ago. Good on you for being creative also.

Such a simple thing as tethering to kit with quick release attachments never came into mind (even though I use it on the pistol for peace of mind). Will try a few shoots with that system in play. Cheers!

Just thought i would review this video again, and you have it right with tethering to your vest. ive tried several sling types (Phase 5 and others), finally decided to build my own. I spent a couple of days with the design, and decided on having the strap run over the shoulder and down to the molle on the back of my vest. it tethers directly into the webbing the same as your regular mag pouches. it works allot better and the weight is distributed across the entire vest rather then just one D-ring at the shoulder. If you are interested I will build one and send it to you. ( Free-bee)

I enjoy your vids and am catching up hence the necropost. The current standard being taught on the Urban Operations Instructor Course is to return to the 2 point method (for a bunch of reasons). Around 2009,my unit obtained a box of tethers (with quick release buckles) that connect the rifle to the vest. I still have and use mine (including 2 tours in Afghanistan). On both tours I was issued a single point sling. I used both depending on the situation. However, there were times when these 2 methods were limited and a 2 pt would have been better. 1. Dealing with casualties, rendering first aid etc. This became glaringly apparent during pre-deployment exercises (mercifully I never had to deal with casualties for real). You squat to help someone - your rifle hits the ground or the casualty. Whenever you bend over - it's in the way, muzzle getting jammed in the dirt. 2. There are many times when one removes his vest but has to keep his rifle with him (simple weapon security). Examples I experienced: conducting joint planning with the ANA in corps HQ when you dump your vests and helmets along the wall but retain weapons. Also, visiting ISAF HQ in Kabul when you dump your stuff off at Canada House but wander around to the PX with your weapons. First off, the tether only works if wearing a vest. Walking around with the single point slung diagonally across my body meant it hung too low, bounced off my legs and tangled in my pistol holster. I alleviated this somewhat by switching shoulders. Still a pain. With the casualty scenario, if you had a loose 2pt sling, you can flip the rifle onto your back. I believe these points are still valid for civilians during your training as there are many times when you may shed your vest yet need to retain control of your rifle or when you need to deal with something by crouching or bending over. The tether is great in vehicles, ruck marches etc. I still use it.

Actually you want to maintain rifle stability and ensure that your muzzle points down range at all times. Best way to do this is to ensure that you have a proper grip on he forward hand guard of the weapon so that you can ensure stability. Take it from me im a Marine and, if your going to the Island, chances are i may be one of your range coaches.

Been using that. There is also a weapons catch you can put on your belt to Velcro the weapon to your belt if you don't need in a 1/2 of second. It takes about a second and half to bring it to the ready.

Good vid and excelent and much more affordable option than a sling but a sling still has its place such as if you're not wearing a vest like that.... I have actually tethered my 590a1 to my shoulder holster before although that gun is a bit heavier than you want to do that but it worked quite well for the short term and I incorporated a quick release buckle easily using nothing more than the sternum straps from a camel pack!

It occurs to me that the "one disadvantage" you mentioned - the loss of quick release - could be easily remedied with a Fastex clip and a bit of sewing. Shouldn't cost more than a couple of dollars and nor take more than half an hour - even if you have to hand sew like I would (I can't use a sewing machine).

Anything with a buckle or release device will at the worst moment come off. I personally do not like anything with a buckle, I have a video coming out shortly on the Specter Gear 1 point sling, and I will be emphasizing that point. I like the MS3 1 point sling, as it has a locking device for the clamp.

I watched a good video breakdown of the advantage young Kyle had with a single point sling when attacked by a mob of people. First and foremost 3 different people at least grabbed his rifle and tried to take it and couldn't. In addition he was able to engage threats to his life from very unorthodox positions. While most might agree that 17 year old Kyle should have been home playing video games instead of playing medic, we can all learn some valuable technical lessons from the horrible situation he went through.
