Richard was to game shows, or at the very least to the Feud what Johnny Carson was to The Tonight Show. We won’t see another of either guy ever again. I loved Richard’s enthusiasm, charisma and his good heart. The Feud was clearly not just a job to him, it was something fun for him he truly loved to do. You only need to look at his farewell speech when the show ended in ‘85. It was clear as day he loved it, I particularly loved his enthusiasm with his “Survey saaaaays!?” Survey says sad that there’ll never be another Richard. 😥

I was not a big fan of Ray Combs. He was okay and had his moments. I liked Louie Anderson but I didn't like the way the producers changed the rules (high score wins vs 300/400, fourth question was one strike only) but that wasn't his fault. Richard Karn and John O'Hurley were nice guys but not that funny. Steve Harvey is the only host since Dawson with the right amount of snark, although sometimes he milks a moment longer than he should. But I have to say that again, the producers are my biggest issue with the show - it's almost as if the families are coached to be as outrageous as possible, with many answers in poor taste. Apparently "S&P" (standards and practices) is relatively non-existent now. Harvey's facial responses to some of such answers is the comedic premise on which such outrageousness is based, but I miss the ABC original version.

Sadly you can't get away with that stuff anymore. In the 1960s and 1970s people were more sexually liberated and it was very common for men to kiss women on the lips, even if they were not romantically involved...those same adults behaved that way in the 1980s and 1990s as well, but the younger generation did not, and was sexually more repressed. Everything to the younger generations is "creepy" to them, and as a result the younger generation have higher mental illnesses, less marriages, and more hostility towards one another as well as bitterness. The generations after the Baby Boomers also has a higher rates of porn addiction and internet addiction, they are more introverted and on the internet all day either on their pc or phone internet.

How about 77 Sunset Strip? I was going to add Surfside 6 but I figured no one in this day and age would remember that.

In my opinion I liked his second time better than his first, out of the six feud hosts, my favorite was Ray Combs and John O Hurley.

My favorite one is when someone said, “peanut butter” to the question, “what’s a food that’s loud to chew” then Richard said, “I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night, neighbors were chewing peanut butter.”

Richard Dawson demanded $10K per episode which at the time seemed like a crazy amount of money. Years later, David Letterman got 100K per episode at the Ed Sullivan theater.
