Both the 055 and the Type 45 are AAW ships, mostly carrying SAMs. You sink ships with aircraft and subs, not other ships. The Type 45 is almost exclusively for SAMs A significant difference between them is technology level. The 055 still requires a dozen individual radar systems to fight and navigate with. Right now the Type 45 is the top of the tech tree with only 2 radar sets, SAMPSON, the worlds most advanced target tracking radar and supplemented with data from the S1850M, an advanced 3D volume search radar which has the ability to detect stealth targets (using low frequency radar) and high and far track for ballistic missile defence. Combined with Aster, the worlds only hit-to-kill SAM family, Aster, which flies at damn near hypersonic speeds (an unclassified Mach 4.5) it is second to none. But it will _always_ lose if you pit it against two enemy ships, won't it? And you know what's worse? When stupid idiots Xi and Putin go around _pointing_ them at us and each other because it makes their pp hard. Pathetic little men who wat to rule as God Kings. This video seems based on the manufacture's pamphlet. It doesn't provide any insightful particulars of the class. The primary deficiency of the Type 45 class are they were too expensive. The Royal Navy could only afford to buy six when they needed at least 12 vessels. Twelve Type 45 escorts would have been adequate for escorts for the Royal Navy's two new carriers if the Type 45 displayed the reliability that was predicted. However, at the present only one of six are available due to constant propulsion issues. Moreover, the Type 45 doesn't have enough missiles for modern warfare. It was announced that the destroyers' anti-air armament will be enhanced with the addition of a 24 cell silo for Sea Ceptor surface-to-air missiles. This is scheduled for the 2026 to 2032 period. The Aster missiles are used by few navies and few ships resulting it being uneconomic to keep a production line going with continued updates and new missiles. At their core, modern combat systems are vastly complex software. The United States Aegis system is used by many countries and installed in dozens of ships. It is constantly debugged, improved and tested. It will work when required. The Type 45 combat system is so few in numbers that upgrades and realistic tests are hard to afford. It is questionable if it will work when the missiles fly. Finally, the Type 45s don't have Cooperative Engagement (CEC) installed. CEC is a force multiplier that would make up for some of the deficiencies of the class. The British should have purchased the USN's Aegis system and the SM-2 Block IIIC, SM-3, SM-6 and Evolved Sparrow missiles. It would have been cheaper and would have worked when needed.

SM-3 is a must, while SM-2 and SM-6 are redundant and overprized. SM-6 being around $4.5M per missile while SM-2 around half of that. Raytheon should make a naval version of the SkyCepter missile, derived from the Stunner missile used in Davids Sling that have similar range to SM-6 but flies faster at Mach 7.5, while only being around $700k to $1M each. SkyCepter should be around half the prize of SM-2, plus its already been fielded into current Patriot systems in Poland.

@@johnsilver9338, As far as I know, SM-6 cost so much because it attempts to be anti-anything that moves (small, and large ships, missiles, planes, UAVs, birds shitting on your boat) while the Stunner and Barak 8 are mainly anti-air of all sorts without all the radar thing and warhead required to be effective against the ship. The main thing I don't like about the missile is that the 1st thing it sinks for sure is your own economy unless you are the US.
@johnsilver9338

@@nirharpaz1 Actually, even the US Navy wont use SM-6 unless Tomahawks prove inadequate. Tomahawks are only at just around $1M. I get that SM-6 is to ba an all-rounder, but the SM-2 to be more than $2M when a Stunner missile has better performance while being cheaper. But even then SM-6 dont even have infrared homing so its price is not justifiable for its performance. Do the US just straight agree at whatever price tag Raytheon drops at their face. Maybe congress should look into this.

Absolute garbage channel! Type 45 destroyer has been a huge fiasco! Every single ship in the class has suffered catastrophic power failures during deployment. Thank goodness the UK was not involved in any conflicts at the time, otherwise there could have been a catastrophic loss of life! The ships have spent more time in port than on the high seas! The cost of fixing the problem is huge and increases the overall cost of an already very over-priced class! Everyone who was involved in the design of the class and who signed off on the project should have been fired and never allowed to work on UK warships again. Any routine maintenance or refits to just one ship effectivly remove's 1/6th of the available ships.. Every navy in the world knows that at any given moment 1/3rd of it's ships will be out of action due to maintaince needs, An example of this is the US aircraft carriers, they don't have them all at sea at the same time, They rotate through them. Rather stupidly the UK politicians cut the navy"s original request for 12 Destroyers down to 8 & then further down to the 6 we do have. Which Isin't enough. Can anyone tell me up to what range a cruse missile launched from a ship can attack another ship. The missile need guidance from the ship right?? So its certainly has a maximum range that it a hit right??
@IMAN7THRYLOS
2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the missile. Every missile has it’s own specifications for range, warhead size and max speed. The manufacturer will make some of these specs available to the general public. To make things more complicated, a missile will have many evolutions and versions over the decades that upgrade these specs. The general rule is that ship launched missiles have a range from 75 to 180 nautical miles. This is way beyond the horizon for any ship. Modern missiles have a navigation computer, maps, gyroscopes and GPS guidance that will guide the missile to an area of interest and a combination of sensors to locate targets and engage them. The idea is that a ship can tell a missile to go that way and attack and the missile can use a radar or other sensors to locate and engage a target of interest. If the ship and the missile don’t have satellite communication, then the ship can’t update the guidance beyond a range because…physics and geography. So the missile navigates by itself.
@paultanton4307
2 жыл бұрын
The Range is mainly governed by your ability to find then track a Target - if you can do that and your Missile has a 500 mile Range the 500 miles it is.

The class was designed to be an Anti-Air defence ship, Never intended to take on other ships or land targets in a full on battle against an entire hostile fleet.
