The LED color variation is what's commonly known as the 'tint lottery.' It's very hard to produce white LEDs with consistent color temperatures. This results in 'white' that varies subtly with slightly reddish to bluish to greenish tints. It's far less noticeable when you see just one white LED on its own but when you have two or more white LEDs (or the light they output) side-by-side is when you can see the slight differences in color temp between them. This is something that LED flashlight enthusiasts have been struggling with for years now and the complaints seem to never end.

I'm not a gamer, nor even a hard smartphone user at all... barely even touch it... but I got a really good deal on it. And it's simple design and front-facing speakers really appealed to me. Coming from the oneplus 7 pro, there is not much upgrade options out there. If this phone had a "pro" version with a better cpu, 5k battery, good cameras, and for around $700, I'd cop that instantly.

Well, I feel that nothing has a 60% chance of flopping, mainly cos there has been a lot of negativity towards them from enthusiasts, and many tech channels are downplaying them. Carl simply won't win this time by providing flagship hardware at low prices, as he did with oneplus because his target markets have changed a lot. He provides a brand for tech enthusiasts, mostly from countries with many youngsters. EG) In my country India, back at the time he launched one plus even youngsters were stuck with shitty Samsungs and he brought a revolution in the entire market for hardcore enthusiasts. This led to other chinese companies like oneplus parent oppo ,vivo ,huawei, xaomi, and infinix providing flagship hardware at dirt cheap prices.I still remember how xaomi captured the 50% of market in one month through their marketing policy of "limited time 12pm sale "which had the entire country of youngsters flooding amazon at night. And later poco and realme (xaomi and oppo subbrands)became independant brands and joined xaomi in the domination. Apple bashing was at its prime just like in western countries now.🤣 presently here we have all the above brands providing the good hardware at cheap prices(there is a strong hit in the policy due to chip shortage). But here IQOO stands out as it hasnt been showing a decline in the policy and is turning into the 2016s xaomi.Currently they provide IQOO neo 6 with sd870 for 23000 inr(290 usd) ,IQOO z6 pro with sd 778 at 19000(240usd) .And also realme provides realme 9se with sd 778 at 17000. What i am saying ,i am pretty sure that other developing markets too have evolved like india and have competitive pricing with probably 1% profit, which makes no sense for nothing to emulate. They need to provide something radically different than good hardware, cheap price . stock android and rgb lights.Unless they suprise me, i dont think they will sell.

And a testament to how little tech companies care about the very vocal needs and wants of most consumers. We now take what we're given, when just a couple yrs ago, consumers had the buying power to stop companies from *removing* features and pretending they're "innovating." Now, they've trapped us in a world where we have buy accessories just to use our wired headphones that will always have fundamentally better sound quality no matter how advanced BT headphone technology gets. In-fact, we're just being forced to use a cancer causing alternative really only meant as a solution for talking while driving. SD card expansion always gave Android a massive leg-up on Apple, and actually enabled a smartphone to be used like an actual camera in the field (all pro cameras use removable SD storage, and massive advances in SD card & reader speeds enable digital photographers the storage size & functionality to shoot RAW - making it closer to future-proofing and replacing Film stock, which has negatives that can be scanned at infinite resolutions for eternity *unlike* digital photo files). Without the SD slot, there will never be enough local storage to take advantage of the latest phone camera lenses & file sizes. Cloud storage isn't fast enough or reliable enough to fill that void. Plus file corruption happens during uploads on both Drive & iCloud ALL THE TIME. I've lost tons of videos thanks to iCloud alone... And Google Photos is a nightmare that's caused me to accidentally deleted tons of videos it showed as backed-up... That were actually still stuck in the cache because there was a bug during upload that requires it be cancelled and started from scratch. Because no OS notifies users of issues with upload or backup, nor adequately displays backup status if the same file exists in device storage - there's no way around this other than manually backing everything up onto an external drive. That's what SD card slots did so easily for Android. The last time OnePlus got innovation right was the in-screen fingerprint censor and the pop-up selfie camera. Now people are settling for iOS forcing FaceID on users, and needing to spend $1500 on the latest iPhone to get a metal fingerprint censor on the side of the phone... Just like Androids had 8 years ago, AND either selfie camera notches or hole punched cameras in the screen. People take far less selfies today than they did 4 years ago - it makes no sense to make that kind of compromise for a camera that's known to be exploited for eavesdropping/spying, than actually taking photos.

"Performance that you will likely never use"

Most of the time you aren't gonna use all the performance, except when recording vídeo at 4k/60(which this SoC can't), or taking photos.

That doesn’t represent everyone. I got my iPhone solely based on performance, which will lead to the longevity that you will need down the road if you’re planning to not upgrade every one-two years.

Performance is never a bad thing, it will be needed eventually and translates to longevity, im on an iPhone 11 since 2019 with no hiccups and have no intention to upgrade anytime soon

Carl Pei naturally attracts the enthusiast crowd due to his reputation with OnePlus. The performance is going to be disappointing to some for this reason. Compared to OnePlus, which started by pleasing enthusiasts but eventually left them behind to make actual money; this phone is going to try to appeal to the masses from the start. This is a more honest strategy.

Edit: love the set and the photography Dave! Keep it up! I thought this phone was all going to be gimmicks but actually I really like what they've done, I like that they have taken a super nice design aesthetic to this phone and made it different from everything else. Refreshing to see when every phone is a clone of every other phone pretty much at the moment.

Gimmicks and all I think it’s great , I personally would take this over a flagship android phone , the symmetry with the bezel is especially enticing

Couple things I wanted to know: 1. how does this lights affect the battery? do they drain the battery faster because of continuous blinking if notificatioms have not been opened? 2. charging speed? 3. Camera? altleast they should give an idea considering so many specs have already leaked. 4. Storage type, ufs 3.1/.2 or less? 5. Pricing? altleast a range Personally I feel it is too early to buy this phone, let the bugs come and be solved, and after correct pricing may consider buying the phone

The phone isn’t available to buy yet, or we’d already have all these answers. Wait for Nothing to release the phone before asking so many questions man.

If its released around 30k here in india it will a real player in the market here like the pixel 4a but much better but I'm concerned about the camera performance cuz nobody's talking about it so it can a downside to this phone. Well can't wait for the actual reviews to roll out for this one as I'm really interested in getting one.
