When proofreading, try reading the sentences backwards (not each word like "emid" instead of "dime," but like "cats like I" instead of "I like cats." It won't help you notice if you forget a verb or something, because the grammar won't make sense, but it will help you catch spelling mistakes and double words because your brain won't autocorrect like it does when you read normally. One of my teachers in high school told me this, and it actually does work!

Try reading your manuscript backwards! My college writing professor taught me that, and you would be surprised how much you can catch that way. Read it backwards sentence by sentence. It takes more time, because you're not getting caught up in the story. You're looking at your book literally sentence by sentence and you will catch way more than you think you'll be able to.

This is a great video! I can't believe that you got to see your book in actual format! That is so cool! That was me when I saw my manuscript as an actual manuscript for the first time on my computer, and I was freaking out! I hope to see my book in person one day like you got to! I agree with you on the word thing too, that's why I read slow and sometimes I have to go back and reread the page, because I might have missed something haha, anyway my NaNoWriMo was not successful this year, I wasn't happy with my progress, I could have done better. I was so busy with school, the holidays, and video editing, that I didn't do much, but you're right! Every month can be a writing month! I am going to start writing again, after Christmas now that my semester is done, I am free to write! You rock Christine, and I am excited to read Again, but better! Keep being awesome!

Hey Christine, one technique we use for peer tutoring for looking at grammar is reading it out loud! I was skeptical at first but then wow it makes you catch them. Yes, it's a lot to read when going through a book, but it might help you catch it! I know my eyes glaze over to my own words after several passes.

November and December are my busiest months bc I'm American, a Catholic, and in school. My breaks are mostly me recovering from the truckload of classwork, tests, and essays that are suddenly pushed at me before holiday breaks/during break and frantically trying to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas. June is probably my free(est?) month bc school is just out, no holidays have hit, and traveling doesn't really happen until July for some weird reason for me.

The best piece of advice that I got from a lecturer for proof-reading essays is to speak aloud as you read your work. You will hear what’s wrong or what doesn’t sound right.

Holiday hours begin at work, my older brother is going to be home next week(I haven’t seen him in 2 years) we also get to meet his GF, and then Thanksgiving! I’m also getting my hair done on Tuesday. I can do this! I just may have to pull some all nighters 😂

The creators of nanowrimo said that they didn’t want to do it in a very slow month or in the summer which was their original intention, they wanted to do it in a regular busy month of the year so people would work on getting the habit of writing engrained in the even when their busy and going to school and working and stuff. They didn’t want it to become “oh I can only work on writing in this month because it’s nano and it’s also when I have the time”

I don't remember where I learned this tip, but ... when editing, you should take a clean sheet of paper and lay it on top of the page you are reading, and then uncover & read one line at a time. This prevents you from scanning ahead. You have to read at a much slower pace. You could also try reading from the last page to their first.
