thanks for this review, cured my curiosity and saved me $26. I'll stick to sniping old Seiko's from thrift stores

Absolutely, but don't let one video scare you away from the subscription. This is just one box. I won't make a decision to subscribe or not till 3 months out. If I get *1* watch out of 3 that I am willing to wear, I will count it as a win. I am very picky, mostly about quality.

The piece in the winding mechanism it's to protect the motor inside and not to start it or engage it til you decide to remove it. The sound the watch makes on the band it is a normal sound for a $50 watch. No watch other than Rolex , omega and a very little few are worth the price.

This month's unboxing video is processing and should be up in the next 20 min or so. I encourage you to watch that one and possibly my 3 month review next month before making your decision altogether.

Great review. Most of these fashion watches have the very bottom of the line Japanese quarts movements. You hit it on the head. If you open a Michael Koors watch that cost 250.00, it will have the same cheap $2.00 movement as you So Ho. Those are the movements that flop around with the crown pulled out. If you get a Seiko quarts or swiz quarts, the quality is noticeable just by moving the crown, you can feel the quality. Bulova probably makes the finest quarts watch, the Precisionist. Maybe the most accurate timepiece in the word. I did a full review on one as well on "Real Cheap watches". Check it out of you have some time.

Just so you know many mid range to high end watches have the hands move freely until the watch is set.
@Ulujmf

The hand move freely because of the plastic pin you removed. It is normal. Once th plastic is removed the hands are fine. It is a safety protection

The minutes hand moved because the crown was unseated. Its a decent watch. I'd spend 50 at least for it. SoCo watches retail for between 300-400 dollars. Worth every penny. I'm joining the black label subscription.

Yea, I didn't notice the spacer holding the crown open till later in the video. I joined black as well, hopefully the watches will be worth it.

I have considered joining this service but everytime I see the watches either they're poorly made or from micro Brands I've never heard of. I'd rather save up and buy decent watches that I know that I'll like

Yeah, I think the subscription service is going to be mostly for people who aren't into the hobby but rather people who just like how watches look and don't care if its a $1 Chinese Quartz. I was honestly considering it since they claimed that they can send out vintages aswell, but it just seems like a fad. And they claim to send out Rolex's aswell but I'm thinking those would be fakes :| What are your thoughts on them as a company so far though?
@the_plantagenet

I have been accused of being a bit too harsh in this video. But it is a single unboxing, and not at all a review of the company. I will reserve judgment on the company till the end of my 3 months. I do think that the company is run and marketed very well. The 'rolex' thing is like buying a lottery ticket, its a gimmick, but it absolutely works. I have no illusions that I will ever receive a Rolex, especially after this video. However, when I joined, I was very much expecting (because of the way it was advertised) much more of a vintage vibe, the fashion watch was absolutely a surprise. It's just not something I would wear, and this video was my honest reaction to this particular box, and not at all the whole company. I do think, that if you are considering joining that you try it out for 3 months. For 3 months and like $90 you will get 3 very wearable watches, hopefully in a variety of styles, and you will have options. Even if you own nicer watches it will augment that collection. For a college, or high school kid I think WatchGang would be an awesome gift. Quite literally, probably one of the best gifts for a college kid I can think of right now. As for me, I don't know if its for me yet, Ill make that decision at the end of my 3 months. For now, what could be better that receiving a mystery watch in the mail each month?

I had the same thought. In their adverts they use pictures of vintage automatics like Orient, and even Omega. They write about the chance to get a Rolex, but all the unboxing videos and reviews that I've seen show cheap quartz watches, mostly from So&Co. Seems misleading.

This video was made in November 2016, it was the 2nd month of Watchgang shipping watches. The company was marketed MUCH different in the first 3 months, advertising heavily on the vintage side of things. So in this video my seeming confusion is related to the disparity between the advertising at the time and the watch I received.

I think that I was simply lured into wishful thinking that it would be a 'vintage club'. That is where the advertising and marketing lead me personally. We shall see what December and January bring. I am thinking of getting "Gentlemen's Box" I think I might get more use out of that for the same price range.

So & Co is trash. As I'm sure you know by now. If Watch Gang stuck to vintage (even cheap vintage like Seiko 5's and such) I might have subscribed. But I wouldnt know what to do with a drawer full of junk watches piling up while I wait to hopefully get that Rolex or a nice vintage piece. .. Truth is I own just under 100 watches already, from ww1 trench watches to Rolexes. I dont need the avalanche of junk watches falling out of my closet on top of that.

You have a point. However Watch Gang has evolved quite a bit since this video was posted. A large part of me thinks I should take it down, as it really isnt representative of the subscription any more. I upgraded to the Black subscription once that opened, and I couldn't be happier with it. For $100, Im getting $250 to $300 watches. No idea how they are doing it.

Denali King that’s because you don’t know anything about horology, the reality is that a wrist watch is only as good as it’s movement not just aesthetics and brand names. I’m sure you believe Michael Kors, Armani, guess, Lacoste, and invicta watches are good ? They have cheap mass produced movements and made of garbage materials that won’t last 3-5 years. They cost about $20-70 depending on size and types of materials used along with their cheap labor cost but they sell them to loyal consumers of the brand for hundreds of dollars ($300-$500) because they have no idea.
