I think one the saddest things about this scene is that in real life, Paul knew EXACTLY what John was going through. Paul had lost his own mother to cancer a year or two back.

John wrote How Do You Sleep about Paul didn’t he? I think it was really obvious with one line about Yesterday in it. In my opinion, that was really low of John but I love both of them nevertheless.
"What about the night we cried, beacuse there was no reasons left to keep it all inside? Didn't understood a word, but you were alwas there - with a smile. And if I say, I really loved you and was glad you came along. If you were here today."

@NanookHawaii John and Cynthia were dating in 1959, before the first trip to Hamburg. After Julia died, John began a period of heavy drinking and was a disfunctional mess. His close friend, Pete Shotton, credits Cynthia for helping John turn things around and start up the band again. In short, if it weren't for Cynthia, there would be no Beatles.

The acting of Aaron Taylor Johnsson and Thomas Brodie Sangster here is really strong and terrific and this scene really made me cry. It makes you feel very sad when John was damn heartbroken after his mother Julia died. And despite that Paul stood up to John he was only trying to help him because he cares for John. That's why I like the relationship with them as best friends.
