@@KayvanKermani ummm no nowruz is open to anyone Persian or not. Is Christmas restricted to one race? Even in Iran not everyone is Persian but they still celebrate it. It's actually become common in other countries for example India. Also the way they said it I doubt they're talking about 1000 years probably their grandparents were Persian....

Who are you to dictate who can or can't be interested in learning new cultures and joining them. As a Chinese-American, my family and I are about to celebrate the Lunar New Year on February 12th. It is interesting that there are a lot of ideals/themes in Nowruz that are similar to that of the Lunar New Year, such as health, prosperity, and rebirth/new beginning.

Shahnameh by Ferdowsi ? by his real name Abū-l-Qāsim Manṣūr ibn Ḥasan al-Ṭūṣī the devout Shia muslim ?

@@haddadleila6708 Dear Leila: Ferdowsi was a Ghaznavid contemporary poet. Iranian after the arab invasion was doomed to choose between become moslem, paying heavy taxes and death.They chose to live but become moslem. Persian language was banned for 200 years and speaking persian could result in grave punishment. They had to choose arabic names and their publication had to be in Arabic as well. So being moslem was not by choice but obligation. Ferdowsi name being arabic should be explained in this context! All the scientists and poets had arabic names including Razi or Khayyam who were atheists. I should also mention that in Ferdowsi time Iranian were all Sunnis,not Shia! Shiasm came extensively to Iran after safavid daynasty!

The holy book on Haftseen table should actually be Zoroastrians' book, Avesta, not Quran! Nowruz is historically related to Zoroastrianism

Majid Ghayour regardless. of material used. The Avesta wasthe book on the original historical sofreh. Except for Zoroastrians, all other Iranians put A persian poet’s book of choiceThis is how this oldest of all celebrations has survived the times. Changes have been made through the millenia in order for it to go on and be preserved. For example for the las almost 14 centuries, wine which was part of the original sofreh has been dropped by all except the original followers who usually set the sofreh with both 7 S’s and the original 7 Sh’s.This celebration is much older than three thousand years ago!

@@myview6852 sharab, sharbat, shahd, and sham' are all Arabic words. Persians didn't use these words before Islam. Persian equivalent of wine is "mey" which doesn't start with "sin" or "shin". 7shin is a lie and there is no reliable evidence of it, but people tend to believe lies they like, without any research and thought. Putting extra items is optional but doesn't make anyone ORIGINAL FOLLOWER

@@myview6852 sharaab wasn't at the original haft seen either, and Noruz predates Zoroastrianism too. Originally it was just literature at the sofreh - eventually, poetry, then after that, the Avesta - then a few thousand years later, Muslim Iranians used the Quran. Zoroastrianism took on Noruz and the faravahar - they didn't cone from Zoroastrianism.

Faran Moradipour you are wrong. Zoroastrians do not insist on correcting many things because they have had to survive!!!!! The religion is so old that Cyrus the great referred to it as an ancient religion and carbon dating done in England proves a history of about 6 thousand years old. Since we can hardly prove every single thing that old and all beliefs and rituals tend to change with time, best sources we have do not support what you are saying. I grew up being told Zoroastrians worship fire!!! Really what nonsense!!!

Arash Kamongir The table cloth is probably Termeh( the real authentic ones are hand woven in city of Yazd from silk and/or long stranded wool.)As it is very valuable old art form and hard to hand weave, the authentic ones are extremely expensive. Now a days they are made from synthetic material and machine woven too. Check on ebay unless you have someone in Iran who can buy some for you. Good luck

*Nowruz is not a religious holiday.* As you said Nowruz existed millennia before Islam came to be. So the Quran is not a part of it. But Muslims who celebrate Nowruz do put a Quran on their table.

The book shown is Quran which is only applicable to certain people like the lady in the video and not all Iranians (even among muslim population, people use poet's books such as Hafiz, Shahnameh by Ferdowsi, Rumi or Awesta which is the only one existed thousands of years ago).

Hafiz the memorizer of the Quran ? well its somhow the same as putting a Quran on the table ;) and your claim about which it is only applicable to certain people this is false, man i wached really a lot of Nowrue vlog, documentary or just pictures on instagram, and Quran is here in the majority of cases.

After Arabs invasion around 1400 yrs ago majority of the country was forced to become Muslim. Just like anywhere else Islam went to. these guys were living at the time were majority were 'muslims', but you cant just count them all as muslims. In shahnameh ferdowsi uses mostly persian words in his poems to keep Parsi alive which he did. Of course Awesta existed thousands years before any of these other religions were born. And today is even the same, someone asks what is the majority religion in iran answer online or by the government is Islam, but the percentage of people actually follow it is very slim.

Quran is not in the original tradition, however religous people use that which is respected, but originally we always use Hafez or Ferdowsi's poetry books instead of that.

As a Malaysian, I don't understand where all this hatred came from. Many people (who I believe is Persian) claim that the scarf is a symbol of oppression to women, but at the same time they are telling her what to wear (not to mention all the slut shaming) This is actually a shock to me because I thought Persian were warm and nice people.

You do realize every country has its own share of bad people? No nation is entirely good. There are always some bad apples among them, so maybe you shouldn’t lump good people of Iran with bad ones, think they’re all bad. Also, by Persians I guess you’re referring to Iranians. Iranians are not just Persians. Persians (I’m one) are just one of Iranian ethnicities. It seems you don’t know that.

Some people just have problem with religion they just show their hatred through open mind wannabe behavior dictating to people what to do or not while claiming to be a modern person! Many irainians put Quran on haft sin as the book of wisdom and for whoever doesn't believe in it, it's ok they can put other books of famous poems or other books of wisdoms there is no need to tell people what to do.

Euh no, i'm not a defenser of the ayatollah regime but they never tried to destroy Nowruz, and its funny how the majority of people who have a probleme with the Quran on the table of nowruz are not Iranian from Iran, today majority of Iranian are muslim, so its normal they add some "islam" to their cultural holiday.

And Hafez as its indicated by his nickname (Hafez=memorizer of the quran) , was a quran memorizer, so putting Hafez on the table is somehow like putting a Quran on the table :p

We do not have that in ours haft seen and you are supposed to show Persian New Year not Arab followers. it would be better a Persian Person demonstrate our Nowruz customs. Nowruz is celebrated by 29 countries, not only Iran. Among those countries some of them are now muslims but decided to still keep this Zoroastrian celebration as part of their new (not so new) identity. Nothing wrong with that.

It's because it's an ancient Persian custom. Kurds were part of that empire whether they like it or not. We have Kurds in Iran and they are just as Iranian as others. Iranians are not just Persians. There are different ethnicities here.

mina yazdanbin its not because kurds were part of any empire, ok it sure helped the tradition to continue amongst the kurds, but the main reason I would say is because persians, kurds, baluch and so on are all iranic people speaking indo-european languages and were the same people from the beggining. And they were all practicing a pre-islamic tradition lile zoroasterism
