Thank you for this helpful video! If there are two owners for the same practice does each need to get an npi 2 or can one provider apply for the npi2 and the other add to their profile ?

Hi there and thanks for watching! The NPI 2 is only for the organization/business itself, not per provider or owner. This will be used on all providers who work at the practice when the information asks for the group information (usually NPI 2 and EIN). I hope this helps!

Very informative ! My question is you mentioned considering different NPI 2 number for varying location based on a persons business structure , etc., what if the provider is doing telehealth? Is there a separate NPI 2 for that?
@navigatingthebusinessofmed8251

You could but most likely you would want to bill from the facility in which the patient is scheduled. Please be aware that telehealth rules are going to be changing here when the PHE is no longer in effect May 11, 2023. Please be sure to be following the newest/old guidelines once it is removed.

Do I need different NPI's if I am working in two different states? Colorado and Texas Also do you have any videos about how to change a LLC to an PLLC? Thank ou Jennifer

Thank you for watching and your questions! Your individual and group NPIs can be used across state lines without an issue. If for accounting or business purposes you want multiple NPI 2 numbers, then you can, but you do not have to. The one requirement is adding the additional addresses/locations using the NPI 2 needs to be added on the NPPES system within 30 days of change. For your NPI 1, if your primary practice address changes that will need to be updated too, and if your mailing address changes. For changing LLC to PLLC, it is best to research the state in which the business is registered, the guidelines and requirements for the change and how to make the change. A healthcare attorney or healthcare accountant may be able to assist further. I apologize I don’t have a video to assist. Good luck!

Can I use the npi2 number registered with medicare DME for commercial medical insurance credentialing? or need to get new(SEPARATE) NPI2 NUMBER?

Hi there! You should be able to use your NPI 2 with all insurances, including DME Medicare assuming you’re billing all insurances under same the same group. Thanks and good luck!

How do you fix a npi mismatched number?
@navigatingthebusinessofmed8251
7 ай бұрын
It depends on where the mismatch is happening. First, ensure NPPES has the correct NPI affiliated to the individual provider or organization in which you are finding challenges. This is the master list of NPI‘s so everything sent on claims and on file with insurances should match what is on-file at NPPES. If those are incorrect, then there is a place in the NPPES portal to get them updated to the correct NPI. If they are correct on the portal, then you would need to look in your billing software to check the NPI numbers are set up accurately because this is the data that would go out on claims. If those look correct, when comparing to the NPPES portal, then you would need to contact the insurance company to double check that their records were accurately entered into their system to reflect the correct NPI number. I hope this answers your question. There are many places where in NPI is entered, but if you can identify the vendor or the insurance or the location where the NPI is being populated, then you can check with them to correct it. Thanks for watching!

Hi Jennifer, I am an FNP and I specialize in addiction med and HIV. It seems like all the sub-speciality codes are indicated for Physicians. I want the taxonomy codes to be reflective of my type of practice, but it looks like NPs cannot get too detailed in their choices. Am I reading this correctly?
@navigatingthebusinessofmed8251

Many times the primary taxonomy codes mid-level providers use are the ones specific to their mid-level title such as Physician Assistant or NP. Then your secondary code could be your sub-specialty but regardless, NPs get reimbursed based on their mid-level provider status and would be less than a doctor. I hope this makes sense? Thank you for watching!
