Only if you knew. They are the ones who teach all the special ops and pilots how to survive. Ever hear that they go to SERE school for a reason.

Joe Hero remember GPS? Brand new back in our day,...strictly a military thing,.until that Korean airliner got shot down by the Russians. Look at the school on google map,.........all I recognized was the road. Do you remember the name of the road? Rambo road. I’m guessing a few things have changed indeed.

Many instructors are assigned to various bases to continue training, and working with the PJ’s as extra eyes on search and rescue, and are more then willing to ride the penetrator down or ride a parachute down to assist in any capacity.

Air Force SERE Specialists are involved in Personnel Recovery all over the world including in combat zones for SAR (Search And Rescue) missions, international exercises and crew training. They work in coordination with all branches of service, as well as foreign military forces, in locating and rescuing downed and/or captured personnel.

On a personal note,.........we were called “Snake eaters” back then,..early 80’s And not really all that liked,....respected,..yes. But they are wary of you. Respect to those who came before, and the fellas, and very few lady’s. Who have continued this very important training. I’m 52 now and work with many veterans,my best friend is Don Mansfield(2 silver stars,7 Purple Hearts, former POW) ex EOD. He got 4 days of survival training. And boy do we discuss his education,....I would LOVE to go back and tell the,....Good,..the Bad,...and the Ugly. Of this kinda training. It’s deeper than you realize. And because so few have our experiences,........and training. Relating to civilians is impossible. So you naturally drift to other vets,...and because your always an instructor,....you pick there brains,...and find yourself discussing things, explaining things.......why did I freeze? Why did they do this or that? Explaining that we are all a ball of soft goo,.......surrounded by walls of illusion and reality for protection. Most never have the walls breeched(civilians and such). And how we deal with the breeches is everything! And you have an insight to why people can act and think in the most bizarre ways.

I read that nickname came from a snake cooking demonstration made to Kennedy on a visit. Now that's cool.
