A Norfolk Southern GP38-2 works the two spurs serving Continental Paper Grading, immediately adjacent to Amtrak's Chicago locomotive servicing facilities at 18th & Lumber Sts, south of the Amtrak coach yards in downtown Chicago. This is a job I've never seen before, despite the number of times I've been to this location. It seems to switch out the CPG plant/warehouse on an as-needed basis; that said, there is usually a boxcar or two sitting in the spur. Seen in the engine shops next door are a fire-damaged P42DC and a Phase III NPCU- both have been out of commission for some time now.
Also seen from the same location (the 18th Street Viaduct) are a long, inbound Metra Southwest Service train coming in from Orland Park-179th St, and a late-arriving Amtrak Texas Eagle.
~Thanks for watching!~
