I just bought an NSPanel, it arrived yesterday, I never for one minute considered that the physical buttons would not dim out of the box and furthermore, of course, I have no Neutral wire! Not entirely sure what I"m going to use it for now! I might start by flashing it with ESPHome as then I guess it doesn't need to be wired to a physical light to be useful.

Thanks a lot! I did not know those physical buttons only work with wired devices

In this example running ESPhome using the NSPanel component , the physical button could control anything within Home assistant - wired or otherwise, In practice I now use the blueprint ESPhome firmware. and use the buttons to control 2 entities within HA (1 x Light + 1 x group of smartplugs controlling assorted devices)

Interesting concept. I like that the NSPANEL controls the dimmer. I assume it controls it wirelessly (I mean not wired up to the dimmer). Can it work similarly with a Sonoff D1 dimmer without changing the firmware on it?

My setup controls the dimmers by controlling Home Assistant - Any dimmer compatible with HA can be controlled.

Hi Dean, I'm really interested in buying the Nspanel, this is all new to me, but from my understanding the Nspanel doesn't support dimming the lights directly connected to the switch. I want to connect it to my spotlights without losing the dimming capability of the spotlights, if I was to buy the ESP dimmer and connect my spotlights to the dimmer, then the dimmer to the Nspanel, can I still use the physical button to turn on/off the lights and also use a widget to adjust the brightness on the screen just as you have done in the video? I emailed the Sonoff support regarding this, wasn't very helpful, just told me it supports dimming the led strips they sell.

Probably not possible with the std Sonoff firmware - but with ESPHome yes. You can choose exactly what the buttons do - so yes, you can use them for on/off for the same Home Assistant devices you use the widgets to control dimming.

Am I rivght in thinking then you have both of the physical switches on the nspanel actually as remote switches so neither directly controlling a light. Would really like to get one of these but would need one of them to control a hue bulb and then the other one to control a pair of zigbee switches set up as a group in another room so I could effectively turn off longe kitched an dining room lights from that one panel. Was going put a aqara opple but if this doesn't need to be wired as a physical switch I already have 3 core and earth where it could go so would be perfect. Thinking I couldd just wire the live and neutral in to this and then the switched live directly to the hue bulb so its always on but can be controlled by this switch directly only remotely through home assistant if that makes sense?

Yes - both buttons controlling via HA, (and therefore any light/function/automation that HA has access to). relays not actually used for me other than to provide an audible "click" as feedback.

@@Dean_Smith Thanks for the reply. Nice to know we can also have the relay click too, I wasn't expecting that to be possible but makes it a little more user friendly to non technical people
