Would you stay in a futuristic, luxury flying hotel that never lands? If yes, well, this outlandish new hotel concept might actually make your dream come true. Straight out of a futurism sci-fi movie, Sky Cruise is a mash-up between an enormous cruise ship and a jumbo plane, with a capacity of hosting over 5,000 guests!
Originally designed by Tony Holmsten, the ambitious idea took the internet by storm when science communicator and producer, Hashem Al-Ghaili recently reimagined the concept and posted its video rendering based on a 3D model created by artist Alexander Tujicov.
Powered by 20 nuclear engines and comprising state-of-the-art infrastructure, Sky Cruise supposedly doesn’t have to ever land and can cruise above the clouds non-stop without any pilots! The passengers hence will be dropped off by conventional airliners and private jets via an external elevator.
The Sky Cruise will be fitted with state-of-the-art amenities, from an observation deck with three viewing domes to enjoy 360° views, to an entertainment concourse with shopping malls, restaurants, pools, theatres, medical facilities, wedding venues, and more! Guests can live in high-end luxury while enjoying jaw-dropping panoramas of spectacular sunsets, star-lit night skies, and extraordinary experiences like the mesmerising aurora borealis from up close!
Sky Cruise also has world-class medical features, ensuring the guests stay in the best of their health at all times. The no-pilot floating hotel will be autonomous, however trained staff will be onboard delivering bespoke hospitality. Working on nuclear fusion that will provide it with energy 24/7, it won’t have an enormous carbon footprint.
All the repair work and maintenance will also be carried out in the air! Expect a smooth sail all along as the strong AI will detect all kinds of air turbulence in advance, and send counter-vibrations to help the Sky Cruise navigate without any motion disturbance. The same technology will also work on noise cancellation and thus minimise the effects of turbulence.
While there is no launch date announced just yet, the flying hotel has already caused quite the stir on social media. Science enthusiasts are already pointing out flaws that suggest that the idea, however fanciful and creative, lacks feasibility. The shape, weight, and gigantic size of Sky Cruise go against the laws of Physics and aerodynamics. Not to forget that since the aircraft will be powered by a nuclear reactor, it’ll be a ‘flying hazard’ and would destroy cities if ever came crashing down!
Nevertheless, the innovative hotel concept has given the global hospitality and travel industry something to talk about (and hope for). While there are many that believe this thing would never take off, others are already dreaming of flying in this luxurious floating hotel in future someday.
