Abstract
“Lockers with "smart" or electronic locks can be found in many places. For example: offices, factories, labs, or gyms. People trust their personal belongings to these lockers, both temporarily and longer-term. Electronic lock manufacturers claim the usage and management of their products are easy and secure. But how secure are these devices in reality?
In this talk, we will analyze the vulnerabilities of an electronic lock widely used for lockers in shared environments such as gyms or offices. We will demonstrate practical physical and side-channel attacks, and we will demonstrate why it is unsafe to re-use the same secret PIN across multiple locations or devices (like gym lockers or hotel safes).
