@Avi Although I marked C which I tried solving in head later as you were explaining, would it be right to solve this way? Combining the two statements I took equal distance for Al and Pablo i.e. 575. So, for Al(for example) xy = 575 and (x+1)(y-5) = 575. So, basically my problem reduces to xy > 575 or xy < 575 both of which are rightful possibilities. Hence the answer is E.

I think your number should be 525 rather than 575. If you were confident that the products xy and (x+1)(y-5) could fall on opposite sides of 525, and switch places, then yes that’s a good way to get to E. In other words, you were convinced that both of these are possible: xy < 525 < (x+1)(y-5) (x+1)(y-5) < 525 < xy The question is whether your confidence was warranted, and that’s hard to tell without more insight into your thinking.
