Last year Matthew, Alex and I started the Nevada Backcountry Discovery Route in Oatman, AZ, ending at Tonopah, NV. It is recommended to drive that southern part in cooler weather, which we had, and the northern part, to just south of the Idaho border at Jarbidge, in warmer weather. However, even just a couple days before my departure for our meetup, we were looking at reports of the final mountain pass remaining impassable due to snow. But that was within a few miles of the end of the entire route. There was a good chance it would open before we arrived that far north. But first we had to gather the crew together. Driving in from California, Oklahoma, and Las Vegas, I would meet up with Matthew’s family in Tonopah the day before we headed out on the trail. The next morning Alex and his daughter would join us at the International Car Forest of the Last Church in Goldfield. This video includes the drive out to Tonopah, visiting the International Car Forest of the Last Church in Goldfield, and the drive from Tonopah to our first night's campsite along the trail.
