The good news is that it is possible to move your internal data from the card back to the Shield. Once you erase the card after moving the data your Shield will be back to the way it was before. BUT -- you need to make sure the data you are moving back has enough room to fit!
Unfortunately this is also the process you have to follow if you plan on moving your data to a larger device in the future. So my recommendation is to get the largest and fastest device you can first to save yourself the aggravation of data migration in the future.
