I still find it baffling that the SD4K is trading at or even slightly below the current gen Black Sub 126610LN. I mean the current gen Sub is still in production and likely to have a production run of 10 years or more. Whereas the SD4K only had a production run of 3 years and like you said, Rolex made a special case, bezel, and dial for the SD4K. It's got all the hallmarks of a future classic.

I totally agree, although I love the Sub, unless it's the vintage 4 digit Sub or the neo-vintage 5 digit like the 14060, they aren't that special. Where I live and work, the 6 digit Ceramic Subs whether it's the black, green, or even the bluesy are dime a dozen. The only relatively rare Subs are the White Gold Blue. I think the SDs especially the SD4K are still underrated. I've only seen each the 5 digit 16600 and 6 digit 126600 43mm twice and have never spotted the SD4K 116600 in the wild.

Congrats dude! The SD4K 116600 is an absolute gem! It's a traditional no-cyclops Seadweller with all the features of the modern Rolex diver such as the ceramic bezel, maxi dial with chromalight lume, solid bracelet with glidelock clasp but comes in a very wearable 40mm size, near perfect proportions, and to top it all off it was only produced between 2.5 to 3 years which is ridiculously short for a modern Rolex.

@@ChristopherNegroni I would agree. This is the pinnacle of dive watches. There are dive watches I would like more, but they're out of my league (like a 5517 Milsub or a 16600 Comex). At 1220m water resistance it beats most dive watches. The bracelet and clasp are an improvement over the 5-digit Rolex dive watches. The case is a perfect 40mm, unlike the later Sea-Dwellers and humongous Deepseas. It doesn't have an unsightly gas escape valve like the Omega Seamaster and the bezel is actually useable. It's still a dressy watch, unlike the Omega ProPlof. I really can't think of any dive watch better than the Rolex Sea-Dweller 116600.

I was wearing my SD4K when I went shopping for a new car several months ago here on the island of Phuket, where I have lived for over 26yrs. The Thai Chinese Sales Rep whom I’ve known for about 20yrs…… warned me about gangs of youngsters targeting foreigners. He mentioned an Expat having dinner at a restaurant when a couple young locals got their hands on him and his watch. I agree with you when you say that my SD4K should be worn, but I’m no longer living/working in Abu Dhabi/ Dubai.

I'd get the SD4K (3135) over the Sub41 (3230) every day of the week. The only Submariner that's caught my eye is the 14060M with the 2-line dial. That's a vintage looking Rolex with a modern movement (3130). Only when I suddenly become a multi-millionaire, the 5517 Milsub is going to be on my to get list.

Great Vid! I’m a fortunate 116600 owner as well; picked up in 2018 as my first Roli. Love wearing it; clean look without the cyclops, micro adjustments for perfect fit and such solid build quality. Strong investment potential, yes, but they’re meant to be worn/enjoyed!
@bloodymarvelous4790

Disagree on the investment potential. Sea-Dwellers don't appreciate as much as other models. Even after being discontinued for 7 years, there hasn't been that much movement in the value compared to other Rolexes. It's followed the inflation curve, but never exceeded it.

I still have my much loved SD4K (116600) that I purchased in Abu Dhabi back in 2017. Flying Helicopters to the Offshore Oil Platforms in the Persian Gulf, I wanted a reliable “Tool” watch…. Time, Speed, Distance…. I wore my SD4K daily. It was a “working/tool” watch…. and it served me well in the cockpit. Still have all the original packaging and docs. Now fully retired to my home in Thailand, where I’ve lived for the past 26yrs when not at work, I’ve been warned by several Thai people, not to wear the watch here in Thailand. It’s much too dangerous. While I would rather have my SD4K on my wrist where it could continue doing its job…… my friends were correct in saying that this is not the place to flaunt such a watch. Knowing that it is now safely tucked away in a Safety Deposit Box is however, comforting….. while I wear my less conspicuous TAG Chrono on my wrist.

After half a century (1967 - 2017) of producing the Sea Dweller there is nothing Rolex could add to the SD4K, as a 40mm dive watch - it is complete as Rolex intended and it took 50 years. @@bloodymarvelous4790 10 months to a year makes a difference from when I commented on this video. Prices are stabilizing for sure. I am waiting a bit longer for prices to drop for other Rolex references. The SD4K is stable in value. They were once listing and selling for $18K 2020-2022. You can still find them listed for over $14K - $16K but as buyers we can command the price more. Dealers are willing to be more flexible and more open to negotiating a deal. I'm waiting to get this 116600 SD4K as my next Rolex. I have tried out almost all modern ceramic Rolex models. To be honest I don't like them. Too flashy, they don't feel like it's made for you. Hard to describe, but they are very well made watches. I want to like them but I'm just not feeling them. For me I feel like I can connect with a watch right away once I put one on. I don't get it with modern professional steel sport Rolex, even when I tried a good number of them several times since 2020. The only models currently that I can say perfect for me, looks, functionality, and how it wears on my wrist. Explorer 36mm, Daytona black dial in stainless steel small classic wearing Rolex. The Daytona is flashy but it's more like a 39mm watch. It wears perfect, and pops just enough without being obnoxious. The GMT Batman/Batgirl/Pepsi since these are thin profile watches I like them, they wear ok, but the gloss bezel makes them too flashy. I wouldn't buy a modern 41mm Submariner or the pervious super case 40mm, 41/40mm Day Date Date Just, 41mm OP, 40mm Explorer, Explorer II, Sky-dwellers, Yacht-master not big watches but they pop like huge watches. I feel Rolex doesn't need to prove itself. I would prefer Rolex would take a more stealth wealth, more discreet design.

Love, love, love the SD4K, but it's a horrible investment. It is still underappreciated, and that's not going to change. A used SD4K costs roughly the same as a brand new Sea-Dweller. So, yeah, it's become more valuable, but pretty much in sync with the level of inflation.

Yea I wouldn’t buy any watch as an investment. Maybe a store value but not an investment. Buy because you love first

Some of the very last SD4ks 2016-2017 had polished clasps

It’s a seadweller. I think that’s part of the charm. But I get you. I think that’s what the sub is for 😅. Thanks for watching!

To 95% of guys who own Rolex , it's a submariner lol

Her har du ikke fulgt med. Denne klokken er priset meget høyt. Er oppdaget av samlere for flere år siden.

It's not though. Prices have come down significantly since the COVID watch buying boom. A mint condition 116600 sells for less than a brand new 126600. If you want NOS with stickers, yeah, you're gonna pay a $4000 premium, but since you're gonna peel the stickers off anyway, why pay extra for them?

Not only did they make it for only 2.5 years, they didn’t make that many of them. Do the math. The future math.. $$$$
@ChristopherNegroni

lol the future math. Well the reality is any of the modern Rolex pieces are not really that rare. Maybe in contrast to other models but no where near as rare as vintage models. Rolex makes a lot of watches these days. But I see your point

"Lightly polished" on a few years old watch 😮🤔🙄? Total No Go for me, while I never look at my warranty card so it could be written Taylor Swift on it I couldn't care less... I have bought watches from the 90's who had never ever been polished, who cares if it has few scratches when all the metal and original shape are there?

It always makes me puzzled why the vast majority of people who own seadwellers think it's an appropriate watch considering they will never use the helium escape valve. You have absolutely no need for anything beyond a submariner.

I have no need for a Porsche gt3 to drive to work but I want one. That’s the definition of luxury. You don’t need it. We don’t even need watches.

@@ChristopherNegroni it only pisses me off because I am a Saturation diver and I've never prioritized buying a seadweller. I'm gagging for one but I'm always spunking my cash on other shit. Good for you anyway dude. Enjoy your watch.

Nice video. I think you know a lot of things about rolex. What do you think about 16610lv kermit vs 116600 SD4K for the investment point?
@ChristopherNegroni
6 ай бұрын
Hard to say from an investment view. The original Kermit’s have collectibility within themselves as there are variations, like the fat four and some bezels that faded more than others like the first batch. However the SD4k was made for a shorter amount of time, and less people bought them. Having said that they were both meant to be mass produced so from an investment standpoint neither is great. I would buy the one you like most so you can’t lose either way.
