Growing up in NYC, I always envisioned my life here. Becoming an adult with a paying job, I assumed I’d be able to leave my parent’s home into my own spot in the city and then came the harsh realization that my job doesn’t pay enough was heartbreaking. I’ll get there one day! Window shopping on the internet def helps with the motivation fuel 😤😂❤️

You’ll get there sis! It took me a while after undergrad but I saved up and saved and was able to do it ! A little later than I imagined but I made it happen and you will too. Trust the process

I love how you mentioned how ridiculous having 80x the rental price is for immigrant families. Even though though my parents both have US bachelors degrees and have worked/lived in the US for over 20 years, they still wouldn’t even qualify for that 2K apartment which is outrageous. I appreciate you mentioned immigrant families cause a lot of KZitemrs fail to do that!

What do you mean immigrants pay 80x? It is 40x with good credit, or 80x if you don’t have good credit or need a guarantor. If you live and work here you have an SS to prove you work here. Never had a rental ask for proof of U.S citizenship. It’s usually SS, driver license. Pay stubs, credit checks…. Blah blah

is it just me or is someone else also wondering how people can afford these apartments? are people spending like 70% of their income on living?
@meggggg

I need to know this too, I spend 50% on ALL of my expenses combined and I still feel broke. This NY rent phenomenon is baffling 🤣

I live in northern Canada and 55% of my wages goes to rent. Wages haven’t kept up with rent increase. It’s super hard

It should be utterly illegal for landlords to charge $2,000 and $3,000 a month for studio and one bedroom apartments. Like the price of rent is not even reasonable no more. Landlords are just coming up with rent prices that can accommodate the income of a surgeon or high profile attorney. I live in Jamaica Queens, and have a 2 bedroom apt. My landlord is increasing my rent $100 effective May 2023. Of course, I am not pleased. She doesn't do her part as a landlord, and just wants the $$$$.

😂😂 you’d be surprised, I pay 3400 for a studio. A nice one but the price doesn’t justify it
