@Ccarnage8

@10:46 there is no labeled bike lane meaning YOU share the road and that car was waiting on pedestrians to cross the cross walk. You should be riding in lane and not trying to ride beside cars creating the problem in the first place.. And um you're not a city official and you don't have the authority to move the barriers like that. Dipshit.
@ActionKid
6 жыл бұрын
@10:46 Yes, the road should be shared and it's legal for me to filter on the road on my bicycle. I recognized that the car was waiting for people to cross the street. Sure, I'm not a city official but I recognize the barriers shouldn't be in the bike lane. If the construction work needed all that space, they could move the barriers back when the space is occupied, but to leave it out like when not in use is bad practice.

As a visitor with some experience riding in Chicago traffic with aggressive/oblivious drivers what are some good streets/routes to ride when I’m in NYC?
@ActionKid
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It really depends on where you want to ride. For the most part in Manhattan, almost every street south of 59th Street is challenging for cycling. Central Park, the Hudson River Greenway, and the East River Greenways are good for cycling. The outer boroughs are much better for cycling, but be careful around Downtown Brooklyn. A quick Google Maps overlay of "typical traffic" on 9AM on a Monday gives a good picture: www.google.com/maps/@40.757684,-73.9855125,15z/data=!5m1!1e1

I lived in NYC from birth - 30 years old, moved away years ago. A few things to understand: 1) when driving or walking, you HAVE to be quick and aggressive, or you are never going to get anywhere between like 7am and 10pm. You need to go for it at the yellow light, you need to try to squeeze in, etc. It sucks, but its reality. 2) I'm torn on the bike lane thing... yeah people shouldn't be walking (def not standing) in it but on the other hand, the bike lanes are a pain in the ass to everyone else. Cities need to be designed for better vehicle/foot traffic, and honestly in some cases I think we need to bulldoze them section by section and rebuild. I will ONLY drive in NYC in the AMs, if I visit my parents I drive in at like midnight and I leave at midnight. Driving during the day is hell, WALKING in some parts is hell. 3) Kinda like point 1, I crossed ALL the time on a red light on foot. I look both ways, if there is no car, Im crossing. Sorry, got things to do, places to be. I wouldn't stop for a bike, I can see you coming and can dodge you. That said, I openly hope people on their phones get hit by cars or bikes and badly hurt. I purposely walk into people on their phones sometimes, if they are moving too slow or on the wrong side of the street. 4) You need to get real on the cars "cutting you off" thing... they are much faster than you are, much bigger, and much heavier. You can dislike it all you want, you can point to a city law, but unless a cop is standing right there, car has right of way, that's life. He has much less opportunity to slip through than you do, so just let them go, or use your small size and go around them. Sitting behind them glaring only wastes your own time and would make me laugh, were I the driver.

Blocking that bike lane with barriers was the most disrespectful thing. People are just so misinformed on both sides. They think cyclists don’t follow the rules and they think drivers don’t follow the rules. The fact is, people don’t follow rules on both sides, even pedestrians. You’d have to have experience from all sides to understand each point of view. Then you’d respect each person.

They need to get Seinfeld to do some PSAs about this, "whats the deal with walking on the bike path? And whats the deal with cycling the wrong way?" George can show up yelling YOU KNOW WE'RE LIVING IN A SOCIETY

Maybe it's not the best idea to have bike lanes and bicyclists in New York. The city is clearly not good for it.

Man, NYC streets and drivers are next-level insane (and I say this as someone who lives in London).

Sitting on the back of my property in a cabin with a fireplace watching this on KZitem and saying to myself WTF Glad to see someone who had to move an entire wall by himself as others passed and never lent a hand to help in any way, out here at least 2 people would of offered him help moving them, city folks need to slow down and live together more courteous of one another, Dammit people get along!!!

I am really struggeling to understand why traffic signs in the US as shown at 2:36 are so damn small, really with the flood of big advertisements everywhere ain't nobody really notices them, do they? In europe every important sign is at least double this size, also for cyclists.

I admire your patience with people like this man. I cycle around every time i'm in NYC and people are so frustrating!!
