Compost Power is an initiative that makes composting more accessible by installing sites at public housing locations and in underserved neighborhoods.
'It's about just giving power to the people,' says Domingo Morales, the founder of Compost Power.
Compost Power aims not only to reduce waste going to landfills and generating methane emissions, but to create a resource for people in New York City who don't have food scrap drop-offs nearby. The org also teaches local residents further about sustainability so they are empowered to do the work on their own.
Morales says his org is working to build 10 sites across the city by 2022; he's already built 7.
