From 2019 to 2021, economic decline compounded by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic left Manhattan's Chinatown with a 26% decrease in jobs, 12% more than the New York City average, according to a 2022 impact study commissioned by the organization Welcome to Chinatown.
Neighborhood activists and entrepreneurs say the years since severe pandemic hardships haven't eased the stress on the community.
