The Cowans Sheldon 45 Ton Steam Crane is steamed for first time since May 2021 having undergone maintenance and repainting.
Although the crane was not used for lifting, the crane gears were tested but not engaged.
The clip shows the steam crane being oiled, the gears tested, the lifting injector being used to top the vertical boiler and finally the fire being disposed after the test was completed.
The steam crane was based in Doncaster from new in 1926 till mid 1960s when it was displaced by a 75 ton crane that arrived from York. Our 45 Ton Cowans Sheldon crane was relocated to Heally Mills Leeds until withdrawn 1978 with a scrap price of £3000 which included delivery.
