Lord, NYPD needs to focus their efforts on getting a new and improved radio system ASAP.

Gut wrenching to listen to when the officers are in need of help and you just can't hear where they're at dispatcher is doing the best but he just trying to get two cross streets and the other officers are also trying while the actual engine offices are screaming into the radio at the same time. glad the injuries were not life-threatening tough job very tough

I'm curious as to why NYPD does not have Portables for their officers that have an emergency trigger that will when activated show the exact location of the officer in distress., when I worked as a contract security guard assigned to Fulton County Government Center in Atlanta, we had radios assigned to us that if the emergency trigger was depressed would automatically show up on a dispatcher's console at County 9-1-1 showing a distress code and the radios at actual physical location. I wonder why New York doesn't do the same and the radio discipline is still horrible you would think with their training budget , their dispatchers wouldn't sound like radio traffic from Call of Duty Modern Warfare. They need to teach their dispatchers how to calm someone down so they can get the information they need

They're still on an analog system. It would cost $millions to upgrade. Here in the UK the whole country is covered by a digital encrypted network with GPS locate, point to point etc. An officer in London can talk to a colleague in Scotland over a portable.

So I get this is riots time so maybe this time it’s more understandable, but even in non-riot critical incidents it infuriates me listening to their crap radio discipline. It’s unacceptable. Imagine you being the officer down and counting on your coworkers to keep their heads cool and bring order to chaos in order to coordinate securing the scene, getting you to treatment, and capturing the perpetrators. And instead you get this noise.

SupaEMT134 How did you get every piece of intel when dispatcher couldn’t even get it all because everyone was covering each other. That’s chaos and it’s dangerous. The fact you defend it tells me you’re part of the problem. Who cares about part of that life (which you are not btw) if your coworkers can’t communicate well in order to get you help. Take some lessons for LAPD during critical incidents. Freaking kid.

Not going on - went on, last night. An Alabanian immigrant, Dzenan Camovic, stabbed a cop in the neck, surprise attack. There was a struggle over the cop's gun, two other cops got injured, then a fourth cop got the drop on him. Suspect is in "critical condition", the three cops in "stable condition", last I heard. Not sure about the second perp, that they mention on the comms? The news stories only mention one. Not sure why this came up a twitter search for BrooklynProtests; by all accounts it had nothing to do with them, they weren't anywhere near there.

Let me explain something to Monday morning quarterbacks that lack the capacity, talents, but are ready to judge. I know this person. The officer saved: 1. Their partners life 2. He / her own life 3. If you knew the whole story you'd understand the officer stayed in the fight and won. 4. Some people have never had to transmit a phone call let alone a radio in duress. Plz stop it. 5. Talk to an official source or read an official document. Stop attempting to create these alternate reality narratives of, what should of been done. 6. I too have acknowledged the chance exists that maybe I couldn't do better. We just never know. We may think and judge but you never know. 7. Back to the officer give him / her credit where it's due.
