One of the all-time great All Black performances. A masterclass in wet weather rugby.

Drove from Hamilton to Wellington for this game, Was not dressed for the weather, Was frozen and soaked by the end, Some old fella sitting next to me and my mate told us to come home with him, His wife washed and dried our clothes, fed us and sent us on our way, great end to a great game. Never turn your back on the Haka.

I was also there, Michael Jones scored that first try right in front of me. We sneaked in plenty of whiskey to keep ourselves warm that day.

Yes, I would be happy with at least 10 of these in my top All Blacks team. The back row, full back, ten and both wingers were fantastic.

Probably still the most dominant Test rugby performance ever.

I was so in awe of the All Blacks after this game that I kept a newspaper clipping of it the next day. Incredible

wow back when Channel One had the rugby Cullen was so awesome. My favorite all black. I still despise John Mitchell for dumping Cullen and Merhtons. He was the reason why the All Blacks lost at the 2003 word cup. What a prick.

Interesting that the Jump at 1:28 was allowed, considering in 1996, lifting was NOT allowed. (Supporting after the jump was). But the great thing about those days was no body complained about the ref's decision - you just went with it... A Good Australian Team beaten well by a masterful All Blacks.

This is a brilliant reminder as to why rugby union should remain a winter game.

A remarkable performance in such appalling weather. The All Blacks were completely superior in every position - without exception - and the the team was as good as any modern New Zealand team. The team reads like a who’s who of New Zealand stars, Cullen, the Brook brothers, Josh K…. the list goes on. Despite the conditions, an eminently watchable match and very exciting.

Is this the game when Australia did the warm up drill instead of facing Haka?

Vasile-Valeriu Chirita yep that’s the one. Last time they did that! In a later interview John Eales admitted it was a big mistake

I wasn't confident when I saw the weather conditions and wasn't confident with the 2 halves selected. I wasn't suprised that we were flogged that day. We went loads better in Brisbane albeit beaten on the bell. NZ didnt do a thing wrong in this game. Brilliant wet rugby.

TheForge10 - no, the reason the All Blacks lost at the 2003 World Cup was the Wallabies.
