Do they grow up to be euphoniums? But seriously, that's a wonderful performance.

No, They're euphoniums that have hit the gym and lost their fat.

Never. Euphoniums are Tenor Tubas because they have a large upright bell, mellow timbre and a , which is the definition of a Tuba. Alto Horns, like Baritone Horns, are actually Sax Horns since they have large upright bells with a cylindrical bore, the definition of a Sax Horn ie. creator Adolphe Sax. A true Tenor Horn would be a Bb Baritone Horn with a slightly smaller bell and slightly smaller bore. Eb Alto is an Alto fundamental which is why it irks me some Easterners call the Alto Horn a Tenor Horn when everything about it physically is Alto small and it has a smooth sweet almost lyrical Alto timbre.

@@Skyisthelimit4me The British baritone horn is definitely the tenor member of the saxhorn family, with the euph being the baritone voice. Theoretically there should be a 13.5 foot Eb baritone that is narrow bore like the althorn and tenor horn, but that instrument was supplanted by the euph.

@@seth094978 The Euphonium is not a Saxhorn, it is a Tuba. Specifically, a Tenor Tuba. I have already stated that because it has conical tubing like a Tuba & not cylindrical tubing like a Saxhorn. Tubas have the warmest mellowest tone of all brass instruments because of their conical tubing. The only true Tenor member of the Saxhorn family is the Bb Tenor Horn. Like I said before, it is basically a Bb Baritone Horn with a slightly narrower bore & slightly smaller bell which gives it a true Tenor tone. An Eb Alto Horn with twice the length of tubing pitched one octave lower would technically be an EEb Contra-Alto Horn. It would use the French Horn "recipe" in that the bore & mouthpiece are common between the Eb Alto & EEb Contra-Alto. All 5 French Horn types share common bore & mouthpiece sizes regardless of their length. I would really like to see that done with a Trombone that can split the difference in tone between a Symphonic FF Bass Trombone & a Symphonic Bb Tenor Trombone. It would be an Eb Alto Trombone doubled in length with the same mouthpiece & bore using a slightly larger bell. EEb Contra-Alto Trombone lol. That would be great for confusing the hell out of everyone lol. Because as far as I know, the only true Contra-Alto brass instrument is the FF Contra-Alto French Horn, even though nobody uses that reference, that's what it is. Contra-Alto & Bass instruments share the same set of fundamental pitches, either EEb (Eb1), FF (F1) or G (G1). The difference is one has a natural Bass timbre while the other has an Alto timbre. And don't let the naming on some of the Bass/Contra-Alto instruments fool you because they way they are named can be misleading like some of the big Clarinets & Saxophones.

Yes, they're the same horn. The East calls it the Tenor Horn (nobody knows why because it is pitched in Eb Alto) and the west calls it the Alto Horn.

@@Skyisthelimit4me It's more like the British and French call it a tenor because Berlioz did in his orchestration manuals, and the Americans and Germans call it an alto because that's its best range. It certainly can play tenor parts, though.

@@seth094978 Like I said the East calls it Tenor, noone knows why, and the West calls it Alto rightfully so because it has an Eb Alto fundamental pitch ( noone knows why an Alto pitched instrument with an Alto sized bore, bell & mouthpiece would be called Tenor ). A Bass Clarinet is a Tenor instrument since it is pitched in Bb Tenor fundamental pitch. We call it Bass because it has a Bass timbre even though most of them can't play all the way down to the bottom of the Bass octave. A student model Straight Bb Bass Trombone has a fundamental pitch of Bb Tenor as well, but we call it Bass because it has a larger bore and bell vs Tenor Trombone which gives it a darker louder Bass timbre, even though it cannot go all the way down to the bottom of the Bass octave. With that fresh in your mind, there is no logically justifiable reason why the Alto Horn should be called a Tenor Horn by anyone at all since it has an Alto timbre, an Eb Alto fundamental pitch, an Alto sized mouthpiece/bore/bell and cannot descend all the way down to the bottom of the Tenor octave. All Alto instruments can play some Tenor & Soprano pitches. Just like all Tenor instruments can play some Bass & Alto pitches, and all Soprano instruments can play some Alto & Sopranino pitches. We name them by their which describes the natural lowest range of the instrument unless their timbre contradicts their name, okay? Otherwise, it's just as ludacris to call an Eb Alto Horn a Tenor Horn as it would be to call an Eb Alto Trombone a Tenor Trombone. You have never heard any ambiguity deciding if an Alto Trombone should be called that or a Tenor Trombone, there should be no ambiguity in that regard concerning the Alto Horn. Got it now? Yeah??? Great! 👍

@@Skyisthelimit4me Yeah that all makes sense from our point of view but consider this: It makes sense to treat woodwinds and brass differently in terms of fundamental pitch and voice parts. An Eb alto horn can play a low A, vs an Eb saxophone only going down to Db. This means an Eb alto horn can in fact cover the entire tenor vocal range, with notes to spare. Also consider that the bell diameter of an alto horn is closer in size to a tenor sax bell than to an alto sax bell. And consider that the French horn could easily be considered a tenor instrument, since it has a large bell flare and is in 12ft F and 9ft Bb. So shifting everything down for brass instruments isn't that weird. Especially when you consider that euphoniums definitely were intended to be a bass voice, the lowest one in the brass section, and to cover everything down to B0 chromatically. Yeah, that's not the case today because we use both euphoniums and Eb/BBb tubas, but all of those instruments are descended from the ophicleide and were intended to cover bass and contrabass parts.

@@seth094978 Well you're forgetting about the other woodwinds that have extended lower ranges too. An Eb Alto Clarinet shares the same fundamental pitch as an Eb Alto Sax but can go down to a low Gb. Bb Bass Clarinet & Bb Tenor Sax share same fundamental pitch but the Bass Clarinet goes down to low Db, can't go that low on Tenor Sax, and that's actually just as low as Eb Bari Sax can go. But the low range doesn't matter the fundamental pitch is what matters. A Symphonic Tenor Trombone can cover the entire Bass octave with it's extra tubing. Does that make it a Bass Trombone or a Bass instrument? Nope. It still has a Bb Tenor fundamental pitch. Also the Alto Horn in three valve doesn't go all the way down to the low E natural like a Tenor Trombone or Tenor Tuba. It's only pitched a third higher, just like Eb Alto Trombone. If it has an Alto fundamental pitch it is an Alto instrument.
