Great work🌸. But just a small remark, I recommend not to pronounce the french word in English to indicate how it is written. This maybe confusion to memorize the french pronunciation.

Hi Alicia, please what's the difference between 'pres de' and 'proche de'?
@lingoniFRENCH
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, let's see, there is first a gramatical difference since `près" est un adverbe ( il est donc INvariable) whereas proche is an adjective. now in a sentence such as "la banque est proche de chez moi ou la banque est près de chez moi, there is no difference, they are synonyms. However, près would normally express the proximity in terms of SPACE, while proche de expresses a more sentimental, affective idea. je suis près de toi (because we are next to each other, that's all.) je suis proche de toi (could be in space, but also because we are very close friends) I am next to you or I am clos to you would be the closest equivalent in english if I am not mistaken. That would actually deserve a full lesson with lots of examples to practice. I'll think about it. ;)
@NudgeTM

@@lingoniFRENCH Thanks a lot! Does this suggest that 'a cote de' is exactly same as 'pres de', since they both mean closeness in terms of space? I hope I'm not bothering you with too many petty questions.
@linkforce6078
3 жыл бұрын
"À côté de" is even more close than "près de" :) We can translate "à côté de " as "next to" and "près de" as "near" Ex: "À côté de Paris" is "Next to Paris" while "Près de Paris" is "Near Paris" In closeness, it's best to understand it like that: "À côté de" is closer than "Près de", which is closer than "Proche". Hope this helps :)
