This episode was a banger. One of the reasons I was a practicing Buddhist but culturally Christian was the very shallow and often fear-based messaging around salvation. Almost a sloganization of the gospel. Also too emotive. “Find Jesus and go to heaven, bypass hell!” If friends and evangelizers had explained like you did, using logos theology, well I might have converted sooner. To be fair, effective evangelization is a skill set not endowed through mere enthusiasm. I also like Rene Girard’s mimetic theory and sacrifice through scapegoating are essential for early/ancient human upward transformation. If Jesus had arrived too early, humanity wouldn’t be ready for that transformation. Jesus’s crucification and resurrection: humans didn’t sacrifice animals or each other to a divine being for salvation but the divine being sacrificed himself for us. Following Christ means turning away from injustice violence and scapegoating and other sins that stunt or debase us. We level up individually and holistically, getting closer to the divinity that created us

I really need to read more, Rene Girard. The development of the concept of sacrifice and what to sacrifice adds meaning to what is meant by Christ coming "in the fullness of time." Part of that fullness is a greater consciousness of sacrifice.

Here’s a topic I’d love for you to cover “I will repay you for the years eaten by locusts…” Joel 2:25

@@basicallyrelated Converting to Christianity came with an unexpected grief: years “wasted” ins service to worldliness. It’s having is faith that magnifying God will lead to a richness during the time we have left.

A complementary or separate topic is the teachings of St. Ignatius if Loyola and how to discern God’s will and plan for us

Those are two great topics to dive into! Both are deep yet immensely practical. I've thought a lot about St. Ignatius's teachings. Also, just a thought that came to me, but Saint Augustine's "Confessions" regarding time washed before a conversion might also be helpful. It's really a beautiful read.
