Hi What is your experience with fs30? Do you like it? I have FS81-a 4-Stroke Pumped Engine, this one quit a lot when idling. I love 4 stroke sound but 2stroke seems to be more stable.

It's a great little engine, I've only just run it in on the bench as I'm waiting on a model to put it in, but it hasn't given me any trouble at all. I've heard with pumped o.s engines that they require a little bit more tuning. Plus some of the guys at the club where I fly use an on board glow system in their 4 stroke powered models which seems to help.

Quick question, the manual states after breaking in 2 tanks of fuel, set it rich for the next 10 flights, gradually closing the high speed needle until it leans out eventually. Question is, how rich is rich? how many turns out from lean?

With mine I had the needle set between 2.5 and 3 turns out from the closed position. I also ran 4 tanks on the ground instead of 2. When it says to run it rich for the next 10 flights, you have it set so it's not hitting peak RPM. So with my 4 strokes I have it set so it's revving fast enough to be able to get the model in the air, but not too fast as to cause damage to the engine. If you have a tachometer have the engine running about 2500rpm off peak rpm.

xrayracer1 2500 off peak rpm - this applies to all your 4 strokes irregardless of type? Or just OS engines? Btw, how do you determine what rpm is flyable and what's not? Just judging by the amount of thrust?

epiphany I've found that 2500 rpm is a good starting point with all 4 strokes regardless of make. Depending on make and also what size prop you're using you can vary it by about 500rpm. The best way to determine if it's flyable is to test the ground speed on the runway, then just adjust the mixture accordingly.

xrayracer1 Got it thanks. Will be breaking in and maidening my 1st 4 stroke next weekend. Your advice really helped me a lot. Really wished the manual could have been clearer. Thanks.

That wasn't problem, I didn't prime it enough, and I didn't give it enough throttle to start with. As you saw from 2:10 it was running fine. :)
