Oaxaca de Juarez, often called just Oaxaca City, is the capital of the state of Oaxaca, and there are a MILLION reasons to visit, including the amazing cuisine, mezcal, architecture, and incredible natural beauty. Some must-try foods are the tlayuda (which you'll see in this video!), mole (did you know there are 7 kinds?!) and the oh-so-tasty Oaxacan cheese.
This video just barely scratches the surface, as you can also do mezcal tours or even visit petrified waterfalls! This options from GetYourGuide takes you to both:

I stayed in Selina hostel, which I would highly recommend. They have accommodations for all budgets, and provide both dorms and private rooms. Some other things I liked: perfect location, tours, co-working space, and a fantastic rooftop. Find them on HostelWorld here: prf.hn/l/7YlvRN2
To get to Oaxaca City you can fly, or take the ADO bus from Mexico City. There's really not much price difference, but I chose to stop through Puebla (great choice) so I took the bus, and many people continue on to Puerto Escondido on Oaxaca's Pacific Coast.
If you're headed that way, be sure to check out my Puebla and Cholula videos too!
