That's the strange thing. I fully get why obese people would feel self conscious about walking into a normal gym to work out. But virtually everyone everywhere will have nothing but respect and admiration for the man/woman who's willing to put the effort in and change. Anyone who would ridicule such a person is an absolute dick head and doesn't deserve their membership.

This needs to be an ongoing series on the channel. Brentley, I saw you several times looking around as if you were checking to see if anyone was watching you. You are exactly where you should be, doing exactly what you should be doing. Nobody in that gym cares that you’re there, or how much weight you’re moving. They’re doing the exact same thing as you, and that is simply trying to be slightly better than they were yesterday. You sir are a beast!
@ABK

100% I think that's a mindset you learn very quickly after going to the GYM numerous times. Hardest part is walking in, after that you just smash heavy shit and rip weight. He'll gain a confidence from going, to the point he won't have that nervous/concerned energy. End of the day, if anybody is looking it's because they're glad he's there making a change.

His rep to failure set is going to be earlier just because he's focused on getting them right. I think it was Terry Crewes that said to go to the gym two to four times per week and just walk around. See where everything is and what's there. Walking around is still walking. After a few weeks, try a machine. Maybe two. Build up the habit of going and trying stuff. Unfortunately so many people in Brently's position think the gym is some scary place where everyone is going to pick on them and make fun of them. Subhumans posting videos of people picking on them is part of the reason for that but those people are a fraction of a percent of the people that go to the gym. Where I train if this guy walked in at least a couple people would give him the "Good for you man, if you need anything or have questions about stuff or whatever feel free to ask!" That's how MOST gyms are and unfortunately that's not the impression most people get.

However, if you’re somebody who’s ever considered getting certified, do it. Going back to what I said a second ago…it is fun getting to know/help people, and you get to make money while working in a gym. This is awesome! Its awesome to see guys decide to get healthy. I was 320lbs. I was a pack a day smoker, i drank 4 shots of espresso a day from starbucks, and i ate nothing but fast food, i drank liquor nightly, yes i was an alcoholic. I knew i was going to die if i didnt get healthy. Then one day i decided enough is enough. I lost 100 lbs, and i stopped everything. Ive been sober 6 years from liquor, almost a year off the coffee, and free of cigarettes and vape for 3 years. And i lowered my portion sizes, and stopped fast food eating. 320 is heavy for a guy like me who is only 5'10. Im back to about 245 right now, but im working my way down again. My goal is 200lbs. Im a good balance of muscle and low fat at 200.
