No. I think it was more deeper than that. He was trying to tell Obi-Wan that he Anakin- himself- was already gone before they fought on Mustafar. He was basically saying he was already down the dark path before. Remember Obi-Wan didn't know he killed the Tuskens that killed his mother.

Personally I took it as a Vader telling that to himself, to re-iterate to himself that HE killed Padame, HE betrayed the Jedi, HE destroyed the good in his life and created the hell he lives in. I took it as Vader accepting what he did as a way to fully accept the Dark Side and his living hell; otherwise, if it was Obi Wan who failed him them Vader's current living hell would be almost impossible to bear. I gather this from the comics.

Obi-Wan always spoke in a turnabout way in Episode IV. But the thing about it, was that he was, in point of fact, never lying, but also, never answering. By doing both, he never told the truth, because from a certain point of view, he would be lying if he did tell the truth. The irony here as well, is that he also admitted that while Darth Vader had 'murdered' Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan made clear that Anakin never died either leading to Luke redeeming his father.

I can only imagine the pain Obi Wan goes through post Revenge of The Sith. He not only blames himself for Anakin's fall to the dark side, but for all the death and destruction of the empire. He believes that had he been there for Anakin, had he just done something a little different, Palpatine wouldn't have successfully corrupted him, and maybe, just maybe, things could have been salvaged. He had many opportunities to save Anakin, but at every turn he failed. He admits as much in their battle on Mustafar, and in subsequent fights. In their battle on Mustafar, he could have saved Anakin if he had been able to keep his own anger in check. When Anakin said "from my perspective, the Jedi are evil." had Obi Wan restrained himself, he might have been able to defuse things, make Anakin see reason. Instead he just concluded Anakin was lost and reacted in anger. Had Obiwan done that, Anakin, Yoda, and Obiwan could have defeated Palpatine together. Redeeming Anakin Skywalker was the solution, but Obiwan couldn't see past his ego. This is the failing of the Jedi order as a whole, though. So blinded by their own self righteousness, their own arrogance, that they couldn't see how they were failing the galaxy, failing their oath, and giving the Sith the chance they needed to corrupt members of the order. How many fell to the Dark Side during the clone wars? Dooku, Baris (briefly), the one four armed Jedi (I forget his name), a jedi temple guard, from what I hear even Ventris used to be a Jedi, and of course Anakin. Many left. Heck, they almost let Tarkin kill Ashoka for something she didn't do, and because of their abandonment of her, they ended up losing her forever. They're lucky she didn't go dark side and seek revenge. Despite all that, despite them knowing that their own vision in the force was failing because of growing darkness, they just refused to accept change. Ironic. They preached detachment yet could not detach themselves from their dogma. Palpatine may have been evil, but he was right about the Jedi, and the destruction of the order was not a bad thing. It's a shame it had to happen with Order 66, but maybe had the Jedi figured out they were in the wrong earlier, they might have been able to reform themselves before it was too late.

Obi-Wan was so agressive in the whole scene UNTIL he looked into Anakin's eye. Right there his violence flew away and remorse shined in his eyes. @ZeroESG.goopootoob

Pure? I don't think that's so. It's the same ol' Anakin from the beginning... a brief moment of nobil good will, turned, ruined by pride. Anakin was the Phantom Menace from the beginning. He was always becoming the evil machine, tyrant/pawn. The development of Vader was a slow, lifetime process that fell together all at once into death.

@ZeroESG.goopootoob
Жыл бұрын
@@SilvaEagle1998 There were multiple menaces. There were subtextual layers. Too much to describe here, unless you and others would like to hear. In short, the end credits sum it up, closing with little Anakin... breathing as little Vader. It's all a phantom mask. A foreshadow. Symbolism. Vader has the ultimate mask. Vader is a puppet master, and seems like the ultimate puppet; a robot-marionette. Palpatine can palpate the process of the prophecy and seems like the ultimate puppet master, and is the ultimate puppet of the force, which must have balance. There are menaces everywhere. Maul is the obvious foil, Binks can actually be said to be it, Sidious is insidiously so, but the whole story is about Vader and the Skywalker royal family. It's the story about Vader's becoming, repentance, and redemption. It's Greco Roman mythology, Christianity, Shakespeare, et al. Gotta hand it to Lucas. A masterful story teller.

Its cause Vader became his coping mechanism. That was actually Anakin coming back temporarily to tell Obi Wan that. That he accepted what he did and how he lost his family was his fault and no one elses. But then switches back to Vader before becoming emotional with Obi Wan and goes back to full rage and evil. His friends got close over the years to get him to kick out Vader, but only Luke his actual family was the one that could do it. His family's death was the reason he made Vader after all.
