Outside of the rejection of the Genesis creation narrative, lots of good stuff in here. One wonders why God would make up such a myth knowing His people would believe it literally up until the last 200 years or so and how many other myths modern “scientific” Catholics think there are in the Bible.

The summation of if evil doesn't exist than good (flip side) wouldn't is a summation I never would've thought to articulate. This is a lot of fun listening to. Thank you fr and god bless everyone who help bring about these podcasts.

Poor presentation. Too many logical holes in these arguments. The interviewer is not doing his job. He should be challenging Fr Robinson on the many logical gaps here. One for example: what good do disease causing viruses like small pox, that caused so much misery, contribute? Water and it's good are necessary, and it's possible harm might be explainable in that way (questionable) but misery causing illnesses contribute nothing to the Goodness, Truth or Beauty in this world, or any other.

I can think of several outcomes of misery causing diseases that contribute to Goodness, Truth, and Beauty. The response to diseases and viruses is the exercise of the intellectual virtues in analysis, research and finding a cure. The virtues of kindness, charity and care in taking care of the sick, and the courage that medical personnel actualize in sacrificing the safety of their own health in caring for the sick as they (medical staff) are directly exposed to the diseases. Thus, we can see that there is a greater good in response to the evils of diseases. In addition to the virtues that a sick person in response to a disease has the opportunity to act upon.

Im looking forward to your biology episode! I see God's work in biology through bats. I helped take care of bats at an animal conservation center, and they are fascinating creatures. The perfect balance that needs to happen for a mammal with heavy bones to carry its own weight, and the weight of its young in flight shows a great intelligence behind their design.

Thank you for the series. I wonder if we create problems for ourselves using the latest science theories to support the idea of God as they change. For instance, big bang is being questioned by the newest data.

I'm a Catholic, so I intend this comment only to contribute to the conversation, but this question of evil is essentially the same question as "Can God create a rock so heavy that He can't lift it." By the way (I'm only part of the way into the video, so maybe Fr Robinson covers this but...), shouldn't it be said that evil is in a sense necessary for the salvation of the world, post adam?
@stthomasmore4811
Жыл бұрын
In the Providence of God related to us, we hear the words "O happy fault, O necessary sin of Adam" in the Exultet of Easter. It's not that it was necessary a priori, or that it is necessary that we use our free will to choose evil (clearly not, as God loved Adam and Eve and did not want them to sin). But it also shows that the God who created them - who is above all temporality - wished to show the extent of his love for His creation by taking on this fault Himself, emptying Himself by incarnation and death.

Yes and also the fact that God allows evil to bring about the common good and never stands in the way of man's free will. Evil rather temptation is necessary for our salvation, for this is a battle against good and evil, a spiritual battle that we pray, we overcome so that we may reach Heaven

non-duality = God is all goodness and love where the beatific abide! This consumes dualism (goodness Vs evil) thus evil is nonexistent in the reality of the beatific! We as Christians thrive in this eternal bliss = Christian Mysticism!

When athesists die, do they go to heaven or hell?
@Popcorn-yf6gg

If they die as an Atheist (no last repentance before they die in their conscience or verbally) they will be eternally dammed.

There’s no salvation outside the Church. Only God can judge the individual soul, but that atheist would somehow have to be in the Church at the time of death, through Baptism of water, desire, or blood.
@skypilot7162

And being inside the Church he would not actually be an atheist. Pretty hard to desire God if you reject His very existence. A belief in atheism isn’t simply an unbelief in structured religion. It’s a creed in itself.

At 36:30, Fr. Robinson says God gives aborted babies natural happiness or heaven. Another SSPX priest said unbaptized babies who die go to hell. Can someone help me here.
@therealistguide4866
Жыл бұрын
No, he says that God will give those who die as infants either Heaven or a place of natural happiness. In the case of the aborted babies, it would be the place of natural happiness that is called "limbo". Some people might refer to limbo as a part of "hell", but they would only mean "the lower regions" by hell in that context, not a place of punishment and damnation.
