Counterpoint, I wouldn't consider offering to do a task you neither understand nor are capable of due to that lack of understanding a positive. That's the kind of thing a toddler does, like offering to make dinner because mummy's tired. It's very sweet but... not the same as an actual capable adult offering to REALLY do something for you because they can. The dynamic is... Off.
@ophelia8019
Ай бұрын
@@angelalovell5669I think you're reading too much into it. Especially when it comes to things someone never thought about before it can be easy to not know if you're lacking info. Especially for something (on paper) extremely simple as crossing out some writing. Only when we actually try for the first time do we understand where we misjudged the task to then learn and do it properly the next time. The fact he is planning on being part of this and trying to be proactive by offering is great. It's easier to teach someone who wants to help what to do than to get someone disinterested but who has the proper knowledge, to help.
@angelalovell5669

@@ophelia8019 You hold incredibly low standards for adult behaviour. If someone needs help with a task I am unfamiliar with, at a base bare minimum, I will ask them to give me a quick rundown ("Hey, what's the relevant information you want blacked out?" Or, better, "I've used my eyes to read and have discovered the word calories and the line that it's on - did I do this right?") I wouldn't a) increase the mental load on that person by offering help that I was unable to give, b) make them feel like crap because not only did I not try at all, I also pretended like I'd done it (knowing they would immediately see I hadn't) instead of acknowledging my failure to follow through and apologise and c) I definitely wouldn't be in a romantic relationship with someone who had survived a major illness and NOT KNOW ANY PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THAT CONDITION. It's also an incredibly privileged male approach to just assume you know what you need to know about ED (easy when you assume you don't need to know anything), not to mention the privilege involved in having no idea how the nutritional information on food works. You know, basic information for an adult to be able to process, since we are responsible for our own health and wellbeing and hopefully, take an interest in those things for the people we love. But hey, I guess I'm not someone who suffers manchildren.

@kaylynlitchfield5872 breakfast is the most important meal of the day, your plan is actually really perfect for the summer break but my plan is better for school. I don't eat at school and we don't have an hour break for lunch like in America, so a heavy breakfast is the perfect thing. Medium lunch would be coming home from school and being exhausted so I have a medium lunch to be able to finish faster so I'd either take a nap or do all my homework to have the rest of the day for me. Light dinner so that I wouldn't stay up 2 extra hours just because my stomach is full and I'd be able to sleep faster.

At 13 I started throwing up at 14 I stopped eating at 15 I got help and by 17 I had put on enough weight to reach 8 stone. I then fell pregnant. At 18 I met my now husband. His family is on the bigger side. I mean weight wise. I remember the first dinner I had and we each had 2 burgers and a side of chips. At my house it was always one burger I found it so weird. Because I was in the beginning of a new relationship and my body had changed after having a baby I started putting weight on quite quickly. My partner's dad would constantly point it out and make 'jokes' I need to add that this whole family joke about their weight. My partner's mum has Crohn's and is very skinny, they make jokes about being able to break her in half and they make jokes about my FIL and how he can't put his socks on. His jokes were never funny to me though, the ones towards me. And this went on for years and I was maybe a size 12 (UK) that's not even fat. I'm currently a size 16 (UK) which is over weight for my height. I am not healthy. But recently I was thinking back to myself back then and how sorry I feel for her, because she gave up on trying because she was already being told she was fat. I genuinely could have lost weight and could have been healthier today except he'd make a comment to me for having a bit of cake or whatever. It didn't make things better it made things worse and I ended up hiding what I was eating and I started bingeing again but this time keeping it down. I honestly hold a little resentment towards him for it. But he didn't do it out of malice that's just how it has always been for their family. I didn't eventually break down and tell him I've had ED and his comments don't help. He apologised and hugged me but now he barely speaks to me. And he has 2 other daughters in law that he does make time to speak too.

I dont have an eating disorder, but I have some friends who did or nearly fell into the habits of one, and I always tried my best to make sure their relationship with food wouldnt dwindle by setting an example and always encouraging them to try new foods. It helps a lot that my mother is a fantastic cook, and my whole family's relationship with food is now pretty positive and we always tell guests to eat as much as they want without judgement. Id say my relationship with food is pretty great except for when my stomach issues kick in (especially because I lucked out and got the metabolism of a greek god) so I never really regret eating, and I use that to help set an example for friends that it's okay to keep going if you're hungry. I hate seeing my friends suffer because of stupid beauty standards, and I make sure they all know that I'll never judge them and always be by their side and help them have a good relationship with food.

Plenty of men suffer from micromanaging their meals into an eating disorder too. It’s society that makes us feel like we have to micro manage, it’s a lack of education on nutrition that make us focused on keeping numbers low than realistic and woman don’t “have” to do anything different to men when it comes to eating. Eat what you need, eat what makes you happy, everything in moderation, exercise well and if you find you’ve put on a bit of weight then find a way to cut out a soda or walk an extra 300 steps a day. It doesn’t have to be complicated.

@@Max1mum0R1d3 yeah I know, I just feel like it’s more women than men. Every woman I know has starved herself at some point and I’m not trying to ignore mens issues I’m just saying due to the mass objectification of our bodies, women have been conditioned into eating disorders and negative body image.

Well then I am men. Like my mum is constantly reminding me of how many calories something is or that I shouldnt eat at that hour etc. I have some good friends who have struggled with with EDs and growing up in the 2000s I do know my calories. But at the end of the day I am all on for intuitive eating, I dont care. If I get 11pm maccies cravings, I will be getting maccies. Its a pleasure and I do enough physical activities so it all evens out in the end I guess. To add to it, I also skip meals! Dont care if you should eat brekkie first thing in the morning maybe I will maybe I dont, depends if I am hungry or not. Like to keep my metabolism on edge

It's not about the amount of bread. If I was planning to have one with cheese and one with ham you can bet your ass I'm still having one with cheese and one with ham lol, I don't care if its in a different font.

Im bad at math so even when o had an ED i didn't understand the calories so when my mom tried scoring them out i didn't understand what she tried to do and then she said yk you don't need to worry about calories and it was so thoughtful that i didn't have the courage to tell her i didn't know how to calculate or what number of calories was good or bad

Having an ED while diabetic is hard, cause now I have to look at the calories and struggle with the fact that I don’t feel hungry 🥹
