Thank you for making this video! I'm an intermediate oboist, and I've been having a lot of problems with puffing myself up with air, especially during auditions and solos (when I really not need that to happen). I knew I was taking in to much air, but taking in too little left me unable to finish my phrases. After watching this, I know I need to support the air I have rather than taking in more.

Thanks 😊 I am a beginning oboe student so this is very helpful for me & it's going to be very helpful when I finally get my oboe. Thanks again.

I do take in lots of air to play the oboe to provide support and produce a quality sound. I just master the art of breathing out as well as in.

I don't think the coughing example is very good because, when you cough you close your throat and you don't want a closed throat for oboe playing imo...

And also coughing is only a very short period of time, while playing an instrument means sustaining long phrases most of the times. Two different things

I am surprised about the position you have to play oboe... most like a clarinet player... I am used (and all oboïsts I know) to play with the bell upper; I think this has a real impact on the production of the sound with the reed
