I can't believe that them old scrapers have been around all these years and nobody ever bothered to put sideboards on them. It makes the paydirt a little more than without the sideboards. If I remember right, paydirt on a 621 scraper with sideboards is 13 square yards.

maybe they know the density of the material they are moving and dont want to fu%$ there hitches overloading there machines. You cant just put sideboards on with the whole premise of carry more dirt

Don’t see new self propelled pans anymore. I see double pans being pulled by quad tracks or 8 wheeler tractors nowadays in our area. Honestly large excavators and articulated end dumps move the big stuff on large size jobs. They can move mountains in no time.

Yeah they are a thing of the past now in my area. I've have seen pans behinds articulated trucks, and also ones being pulled by tractors as well. Hope all is well! Including that 953K :)

I've worked in hilly and mountainous terrain, bulldozers 47 years, and ain't no John Deere pulling a pan working this ground!!! JD, king of the farm!

Single engine scrapers like these are most effective for finish dirt work. A dual engine like a 627 are way better suited for cuts
