@@nekoleamber it’s my pleasure. I was on a different panel than you at Reina’s conference a couple weeks ago. Your calm energy is very inspiring. Reaching (or trying to reach) people through KZitem can feel really hectic. I keep reminding myself to channel some Nekole calm and do one thing at a time. 💗

Hi Nekole, I love watching your channel because I always feel like in the videos I search of OT, you always speak so eloquently and professionally while still delivering genuine answers. With that being said, a video I would like to see is your approach on why you might help two patients with the same or very similar problem a bit differently. I am in a COTA program and I love hearing the insight an OTr has when they discuss patients with similar problems and how/why two different approaches to solving the issue might be needed instead of the same way for both.

Thank you so much for your kind words! :) Can you help me understand your question a bit more? The first thing that comes to mind is the patient's background/values/interests. Since I am in pediatrics I would see many kiddos with very similar presentations of a diagnosis but one family may value one set of goals or treatment approach while the other may value a different set of goals/treatments. Kids are especially motivated by all sorts of different things, so that would significantly alter my approach with two similar patients. But I'm not sure if that was what you were asking. ;)

@@nekoleamber Your response answers my question, but yes I should have clarified a bit more haha! I'll keep a mental note of that, because you're right... different children will be motivated by different things.

Oh good! I just wanted to make sure I was understanding you correctly. Also consider potential behavior issues or sensory needs that might show up in one patient versus another - even though the two kiddos may have the same treating diagnosis. You might need to start your session with swinging or heavy work before working on your goals. That might call for a different approach with one kiddo vs another. :)

I just subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago. I am extremely thankful for your content. I’m currently a sophomore in college and my major is still undecided. What major would you recommend me thinking about walking into? Next semester I’m taking ( Abnormal Psychology, Medical Terminology, and Basic Anatomy & Physiology)

Hi Josh! Thank you for the kind words. It sounds like you’re covering the important pre-requisite courses you’ll likely need to get accepted into a OT program. I’d chat with a college counselor about how best to maximize your college experience to gear you up for OT. It won’t matter too much which major you choose so long as you meet the requirements before applying. Best of luck!

nc mj Hi there! Congrats on heading into the OT field. I’m sure you’ll love it! There are many niches in OT. Some of them include pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, hand rehab, driver rehab, neuro rehab, sensory, and many more. Then you have inpatient settings (acute rehab, skilled nursing facilities, etc) and outpatient settings (sensory clinics, rehab clinics, travel therapy, etc) and there are so many sub-niches in each of those. Many I’m not even aware of. 😊

Hi i loved the video! Quick question, do you specialize specifically in pediatrics?? If so, how did u get there? Like i want to specialize in pediatrics but i don’t know if i have to get licensed for that or if there’s certain classes i have to take for it. If there weren’t specific classes, do you recommend any i should take in my undergrad to help me specifically in pediatrics?? I hope this isn’t too much, thank you.

I hope this isn't too personal of a question to ask, but I wanted to know how old you were when you started this journey. I'm 27, married, and want to have a baby within the next year or so, god willing. I have a degree now, I make good money, and I'm so scared to just jump into starting my life all over again. What would you suggest?
