Dude I'm going to give you a secret set up to use so you don't have to use more weight. You can use less and still anchor. Use a 4 or 5 oz sinker with anchor wires. Or what you'll call Sputnik sinkers. You just get better anchor without having to throw too much weight. Trying and if it helps make a video.

Thank you for the advice. I've used sputnik sinkers in the past but honestly I'm not a fan. If the current is unmanageable I usually switch locations

What are the best tides to snare crabs from the beach?

The beach is easiest to fish during slack or an outgoing tide. Best of luck out there!

Great video! Inspiring! I'm new. Wondering what type of conditions are a no go? Maximum wave height and swell height to be successful? I drive from a distance so I try to assess the situation before spending my precious money on gas. @BetterOddsFishing

It’s possible to find success during rough conditions. Anything over 6’ swells gets pretty wild, I wouldn’t try if I saw a report of 10+

I was out at Montara last week just before low tide, the reports said 3 ft wave heights but I couldn't get my snare to stay in the water - even after casting very far with a 12oz sinker attached it would not sit still. In your video, Ocean Beach looks like there isn't a significant wave break. I'm thinking the beach you go to matters as well, no?@@BetterOddsFishing

Minimum 8oz

It depends on the current, you don’t want your snare to move around. Usually around 8oz is enough, rough water can take 16oz or more, and I’ve seen calm days where 3oz can stick. You can place the extra weight inside the snare, or attach to the back end of it with about a foot of line. Best of luck out there

This is ocean beach in San Francisco, located on the great highway. Has a couple of parking lots between sloat Blvd and balboa st, and plenty of street parking. Best of luck out there 👊🔥🔥
