The skill it takes to write and play their unique style is unreal the first parts are in 7/4 then 5/4 so technically 12/4 or 12/8 either way so complex no wonder they put out a few albums only to keep that up would be literally impossible thats how talented they all are and were together hope they are well and happy.ledgend of an album!, savant is superb too! Also they mastered 11/8 which i call 5+a half 4 as thats😢 how it feels which is pne of the trickiest timings there are literally and they open two albums with that special timing

The main pattern so far is 7/8 (x3) and then 3/8 (x1) for a total of 24 8th note "beats." Then the middle seems to be 6/4 followed by 7/4 interspersed with 5/4, which is still just a highly syncopated 6/4. Then at the end they use some of the opening pattern before going back to the middle one yet again. It's all over the fucking place, yet completely smooth and cohesive. That requires MAJOR talent. Gentle Giant would be proud.
@Dredge_ZA

Not through the whole song. In the instrumental bridge it goes into 5/4 with a 6/4 at the end of each measure. Then back into the 7/4 5/4 (or 12/4) before the vocals in the bridge.

It's fair to say that my grasp of the theoretical terminology of music can be found lacking sometimes, however I interpreted the original comment as drinking whenever the number of beats in the bar changes. Seeing as the verse motif comprises three bars in 7/8 and one in 3/8 that adds up to about one change every fours seconds or so in the verse section alone. This may average out differently over the whole song given that the time changes in the instrumental happen every seven bars instead.

I've seen loads of people count the main part of this song 7+5 and it seems bizarre. Surely it's more logical to count 7, 7, 7, 3? (16th notes by your count) otherwise you're continuously playing over the bars- especially the main keyboard riff. Not that it matters, it's a rock song not a symphony, albeit a mindblowing one :)
